DIY tube amp for electrostats: transformer coupling vs DC coupling ?

Which one you prefer and why?   Direct connection freaks me a little bit, because  if something goes wrong you're at risk of getting full B+ right next to your ears. And you need a separate high-voltage begative supply so that the plates can rest at around 0V during normal operation.   A...

Proper way to implement a separate bias supply in a DIY electrostatic amp?

Hello!   I am building a vaccum tube amp, testing it with stax electrets as of now so no need for bias supply fot the moment. The headphones are connected directly to the plates, which are sitting close to 0V by using a negative supply for the final stage.   However i am a bit puzzled on how...

DIY stax adapter box busted my amp - help me understand....

Yesterday i tought i knew how transformers worked. I wired an hammond Push-Pull tranny backwards to build a stax adapter. The  impedance ratio was 1:1900 when using the 4ohms tap. I figured that at 50K the stax headphones would then be reflected as about 26 ohms.  I feel so dumb now, sitting...
