Bang for the buck ,I like the JVC Marshmallows.

I have the Senn Px100, JVC marshmallows and Denon 551k. You can not go wrong with any of them. I do not buy high end phones but for the money the Denons are my new favorite.

OP this is an enthusiasts forum. People take their headphones seriously. You do not have to do anything to them but put them on your head and start enjoying the sound that comes out. Enjoy and don't worry about modding. I have 6 pairs , not one that cost over $100 (most under $50) and enjoy them...

Some guys over at Iaudophile.net have painted theirs. You have to disassemble it and it sounds pretty involved.

Just picked up 2 pair. Very nice with cowon d2. I'm no golden ear but they seem a little smoother than the EP630's . Also very Comfortable.

You need a system. MS1 are a great start but do not travel well . Get them and PX100s or an in ear phone and you will be set (Until the Head Fi bug Bites again)

I don't compare headphones . Most all good quality phones sound great to me. They are all just a little different from one another. That said . I was listening to Diana Krall on my MS1s the other day and I had to stop and say to myself "Self, This lady sounds freaking amazing!"
