How will the SRH840 headphones sound without an amp, is it absolutely necessary to buy one or will they work fine straight from an iPod?

So my two options are the Ultrasone wiithout an amp or the Shure with an amp? If that's the case then I will have to go with the Ultrasone. My original requirement was that it could be plugged straight into an iPod.

Although these do look good they are well within my budget (£135) and I'm wondering if they're a bit too cheap.
