Schiit Magni+ and Magni Heretic :: Impressions Thread

Got my Black finish Heretic in :) I think they've discontinued it because it's too much amp for the money!

Schiit Magni+ and Magni Heretic :: Impressions Thread

That was the issue that plagued my Magni+. I sent it in and Schiit fixed it and had it back to me quickly. I'm about to be three amps deep in Schiit, and if I have further issues that would at that point weigh on my future purchasing decisions, but I hope not to.

Schiit Magni+ and Magni Heretic :: Impressions Thread

This was not the result of an intentional experiment, just happenstance: I was able to reliably get my Heretic's protection circuitry to trigger at what didn't seem like excessive volumes while gaming, but it was while playing a game with extremely loud (relative to digital 0dB, much louder than...

Schiit Magni+ and Magni Heretic :: Impressions Thread

Oh, what the heck, at $59 I couldn't say no to getting a Heretic in Black before they're all gone. It will match my Magni+, Modi+ and Loki Mini+ (you know, Schiit stack from late 2022 basically, got into a pile of Schiit on their first Black Friday sale!). My current Heretic is silver, just...

Schiit Magni+ and Magni Heretic :: Impressions Thread

One review mentioned having an issue with HD-600s, I've used HD-650 and HD-660S with it without any issues at all. I've enjoyed them very much with headphones down to 42ohm impedance, but nothing lower than that. Perhaps the person listening with HD-600s and triggering it was trying to listen...

Schiit Magni+ and Magni Heretic :: Impressions Thread

Wow, I just checked on Amazon and I see several reviews with people talking about the overcurrent protection kicking on unexpectedly. I want to note I have not had that issue one time with my Heretic, and I'm driving 600ohm cans in high gain mode frequently. I'm very tempted to get a backup...

Schiit Magni+ and Magni Heretic :: Impressions Thread

Yeah, I thought I was getting in on the ridiculous closeout deal already at $79! $59 is true no-brainer price for it, wonder if it also shows just how much is in them for costs - getting down to actual bottom dollar, or is there still even at that $59 some margin built in? Idle curiosity only...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

If I had it to do over again I'd get two Heretics right now and have a Heretic and a backup Heretic :beerchug: As it is I have a Magni+ which is very good and a Heretic which I feel is about perfect for my tastes, paid full price for the Magni+ and $79 for the Heretic not that long ago but I...

Schiit Magni+ and Magni Heretic :: Impressions Thread

I had a "decent" Chinese amp that I was using for a while, put a nicer op-amp in it and it's done great, still sounded good when I sent my Magni+ in for a needed repair (the 3-way gain switch failed) - not going to lie, I'm kiiiinda wishing I'd have waited because the deals here are outrageous...

Wow, Magni+ and Heretic for $59. I paid more, even recently, enjoy the deals new buyers!

Schiit Magni+ and Magni Heretic :: Impressions Thread

Well, my Magni+ has basically become my backup amp because I like the Heretic so much. It's not a huge one-sided beatdown or anything, the Magni+ is a great headphone amp that sounds like way more money than it costs (based on my past experiences with amps from the 2000s, 2010s) but the Heretic...

The AKG K712 Pro Support and Impressions Thread

You can use a simple normal rubber band on each side as tensioners, it's how I have my old Q701 and they fit arguably a bit better than they did initially after the rubber band refurbishment :k701smile: But I don't know what to tell you about the other bits, so sorry that happened. Hopefully you...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

You know, I spoke too soon, I actually like the Magni+ Heretic really well with my DT-880 600ohm. I boost the lows slightly with my Loki Mini+ just to give it a bit more foundation and then it's damn near perfect for my listening tastes. Also... Uh... Ok, hear me out, ever think of using a...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Man this Magni+ Heretic is cool! It's just amazing what quality you can get in 2023 without breaking the bank. I think back to the amps I was paying 2x that or more for back in my college years that just suck by way of comparison. I'm not saying there's not room to climb up past their product...

Schiit Magni+ and Magni Heretic :: Impressions Thread

Took advantage of the current sale to get a Magni+ Heretic to complement my Magni+! I like the Heretic a lot, it's very accurate in the lows and highs. The Magni+ sounds a bit different. I described it elsewhere as the Magni+ having somewhat looser lows but an overall high frequency character...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Magni+ Heretic got here! I went with Black for my initial Schiit stack and I guess I could have kept the theme and it'd be black top / red lower, which would look cool too, but I really wanted to see some Silver Schiit. I think it looks great and would definitely buy more silver gear from them...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Hey, a big Schiit sale! Sweet! I got the Magni+, Modi+ and Loki Mini+ over the holidays last year. Now that they're blowing out the Magni+ Heretic I've ordered one of those (in silver, why not, my others are black so it'll be visually distinct!). The new Magni Unity looks really cool, too, and...

    K701 thread

Q701 sounds pretty much like I remember it sounding with some of the foam pads from Amazon. Sense memory ain't the most reliable thing in the world and it's been about a decade since they were new. So take that into account. But, if I compare them to my K712 with stock pads, they are how I...

New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

I'm a big fella with a big head and big ears, they do touch the pad layer on the inside somewhat. I don't find it distracting or uncomfortable, personally, and I had ample time to use these in the hotter summer months this year, never plugged my AC in this year but kept the fans handy :) My...

    K701 thread

Seconding, these worked great for my Q701 and have held up nicely in the two years since I bought them (not my main can, though, so not so heavy use).

New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

I have some DT-770 Pro on hand, but they are not using stock pads anymore. When I put the pads on they were a considerable improvement from the worn stock pads but who knows how close they are to the stock sound. Still, DT 700 Pro X smokes them kind of effortlessly for everything but soundstage...

Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

And so it is that my favorite Sennheiser lived and died. Going to the big R&D lab in the sky, sniff sniff

Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

Of the Sennheisers I have owned and liked, I think the HD 599 are the best choice for running off of laptop/phone/etc. without external amplification. But while I have had the 600 series cans apart from the S2 and my current favorite is the HD-660S, the HD-560S is not one I have owned yet :)
