Hifiman HE-400i and HE-560: From CES to Pre-Launch

The HE-400 sounds acceptable from a portable device. But of course it is better with a solid amp. I am curious how the 400i will sound with both. I guess that certainly lends credence to the i designation. If they are keeping portables in mind will the cable be shorter? Come with one for home...

    hifiman he-400's are insane!

I did something similar with Alpha Dog pads. Took a bit to adjust but but was feeling like the right move in no time.

Hifiman HE-400i and HE-560: From CES to Pre-Launch

I'm in the camp that bought the 400s right before the announcement. Now the price has dropped slightly above what I paid for a used set. At least I'm not the guy who I bought them from whom had just purchased the 500s new.:o But in all seriousness for $300 any differences to the 500s mean...

    Hifiman He-400 or He-500?

It seems like for many but not all, like above, the 500s are better. However the 400s fall strongly into the category of more than good enough especially when you consider the price. One of the other factors I hear is that the 400s are easier to drive. Anyone have experience with both and like...

    ATH-W1000X Thread!

You can even see in this thread a few weeks ago I really liked my W1000Xs. But having the comparison of the other headphones left me feeling like I couldnt afford to keep both. It's too late to ask Santa for new iems for work. Unfortunately money always gets me in the end. I just don't listen...

    ATH-W1000X Thread!

I have to agree fully with conquerator2. So much so that I have mine up for sale here currently. At least I'll have some fond memories but I just spend more time with the HE-400s.

Hifiman HE-400i and HE-560: From CES to Pre-Launch

Agreed. As jerg is here and may wish to comment I am interested as how the pads will change. Especially on the 400i as I have read that the jergpads are effective on the 400 but really work best with the 500.

    Advice Please: ATH-W1000X ($399) vs. HE-400 ($399)

I have been really tempted by those pads. Would you be so kind as to elaborate the differences you noticed between them and stock?

Hifiman HE-400i and HE-560: From CES to Pre-Launch

Agreed on the wait and see approach. I like the 400s very much but it doesnt seem like I am fully satisfied with them. The 400i might fit the bill nicely at that price point but we will have to wait and see (hear).

    Advice Please: ATH-W1000X ($399) vs. HE-400 ($399)

I think that is a fair assessment. The vocals are quite present and forward. Too much for my taste on some recordings. Johnny Cash's American recording (volume 3 particularly as of my last listening session) felt forced forward over the guitar. And the W1000X LOVES guitar. But subdued vocal...

    ATH-W1000X Review *UPDATED*

The update to the original review is exactly what I am experiencing. Congestion is easing. I need to replace the pads as that seems to be the answer to the other issues I have with these cans.

    Advice Please: ATH-W1000X ($399) vs. HE-400 ($399)

I have had both now for a few days and as I compare them they are so different it is hard to decide which one would be the daily driver (pun intended). The ATHs are the best in your head sound you can get at that price range. The 400s open everything up and have a slight increase in the low...

The Interconnect and Power Cable Thread.

Best I've ever had (and still do) Deltec Black Slink. A rare vintage set but nothing sounds quite like them.

Vintage tubes sound much better to me with this unit than higher end modern tubes do.

Good ~$200 Amps for the HiFiman HE-400's?

Curious what the OP went with. I have heard them with a Schiit and an Antique Sound Labs unit. Both were nice. I've heard contrasting opinions regarding SS being better than tube with ortho headphones. I really think that it is just preference.

    hifiman he-400's are insane!

Having just purchased some 400s my first thought was that they were lacking in the mid to low bass. Liek the hit was there but not enough follow through. Likey because I am so used to the closed backs I've had...

    Hifiman He-400 or He-500?

This past weekend I purchased a set of 400s off a neighbor. He had a set of 500s he had recently purchased on a black friday sale. Having lived with both he decided to part with the 400s. When I asked his opinion on the differences between them he said it was subtle but noticable. Not unlike a...

Hifiman HE-400i and HE-560: From CES to Pre-Launch

I just received a pair of HE-400 over the weekend. Biggest difference I noticed immediately is how the soundstage opened up as compare to my ATH W1000Xs. The ATHs sound like the best set of headphones I ever had; but thats the issue, I can still tell they are headphones. As I am familiar with...

    Gilmore Lite Amp Owners Unite!

It's most likely a clone then. The website I got to check was: http://www.djgardner.com/headphone/gilmore/ I can't post any pics yet but it's a simple metal box with a Neutrik locking socket and a an Alps Volume pot on the front. On/off switch, left-right rcas, and power port on the back. The...

REVIEW: Yarland P100 tube headphone amp (pics)

If I'm not mistaken I purchased from STO Sound and Vision the very unit reviewed in the updated section of this thread. And having spent sometime with it and I (of honestly limited experience) can say I absolutely agree with what was stated and give kudos to Skylab for his quality review work.

    Gilmore Lite Amp Owners Unite!

I've been using (sparingly) a rather basic but nice little preamp I picked up last year. The last owner called it a Dynalo Gilmore Lite. I can find only a website or two regarding this information. Is there any other way I might find out a little more about this thing? It looks like it certsinly...
