    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

Went to sleep and broke the HD600 in more to a bunch of Mike Oldfield records, sitting by itself of course on low volume.   Listening now to some Lateralus from Tool and these sound very smooth to me. Records are very easy listen to for longer periods of time. It's more like music. I've been...

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

For what it is worth my Denon 2112CI is pushing these very well. Was a little worried but no plenty of undistorted power it seems. Still breaking them in to some long play Miles Davis. One thing I can't do with these is play them at night hardly at all.... so back to the BD DT1350s for night time.

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

Just picked up a pair of these for the Amazon 250 deal. Pretty amazing so far. I can see where they can be outdone by modern headphones, but they are really up there with the tone for me. The staging of course is different than some might want, but that is mostly preference anyway.   These are...

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!

Yes, correct, but those old CDs also had terrible scans to begin with in most cases. The converters were not even close to what we have today. Sure, they can sound decent, so can normal CDs from that day. But again, I felt something different on that STP Core release in high-res and I'm sure it...

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!

Campbell and the Admin in the mac article up there get into an intense debate about some things. It is worth reading. They also link to some experimental studies on perception of sounds past the normal range and other useful tidbits.   http://jn.physiology.org/content/83/6/3548   "In...

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!

Here was this debate I was reading which was pretty entertaining: http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/digital-music-16-bit-44-khz-explained   One thing that should always be taken into account is that a high-res version of anything is almost ALWAYS going to better than its late 80s/early...

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!

I don't believe you. Why? Because now you are trying to tell me that there is science behind this audible transparency that 100% confirms it. I don't believe this.   I do believe that a perfectly assigned downscaling from 24/96 to 16/44.1 is inaudible to my system and ears. But now you are...

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!

Well I have been following up on this debate again. Let me get what I have been reading. I have no idea about some of it and don't make any claims  as to the accuracy. As I said I get 24/96 to rest easy, and even 24/192 sometimes because really I don't care about space. I got the Grateful Dead...

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!

I'll honestly never even touch lossy material. I don't care what ABX you want to drive through my wrists. No, you cannot always tell the difference but on A LOT of stuff you sure as hell can. ABX tests are often a flawed methodology. You really need to sit down with an album and go all the way...

    New Beyer DT1350

The momentums are decent headphones and not catered to explicitly for the hip-hop market. A tad bit I'd say but that is it.

    New Beyer DT1350

Quote: Yes, in fact they are garbage. Mine can't hold the metal from touching my head after a year of hard use and are totally indented on the tops. That is exactly what I call useless, hence, the term crappy.

Earpads look like the same crap from the first ones to me.

    New Beyer DT1350

Coming up on two years here in a couple months and have already notified Beyer I need to send these back. I am definitely getting new cushions on the speakers, as these would seriously kill me if I wore them without my Senn pads over them, and I guess I will see what they do. Doubt they will add...

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

I'm having trouble deciding if I should invest in these and I also wonder when the next iteration will be out. It may be sooner than later who knows. There is almost too much talk of this peak that is scaring me off. And the comments about weak bass but sometimes that can be source related.

    New Beyer DT1350

In the end I just bent the metal a little further out and will take the reduction in bass for comfort. When they seal they are sweet but the pads just don't hold up and lead to pain for my large head after a year. Beyer really should have made the outer casing less sharp against the ear in the...

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

Thanks for that reply man. About exactly what I expected. That MKIII amp is a lot of money and I have the same DACs in my Denon 2112ci as the high-range Denon. Mine costed 388 so I think of it as a very budget-oriented amp. I have 700GB of FLAC music and the Denon helps with the whole painless...

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

For the record this is what the Denon 2112ci has: AKM Semiconductor 24-bit/192-kHz AK4358VQ x 2 per channel differential.   Nick, it looks like your ADCs are the same as mine but on the site it doesn't list the DACs. Prolly the same I guess no idea but just remember to use 2 channel direct...

I hear you man. 2112ci refurb for 390 here.   Nothing I could see but a scratch on front and didn't even look like it was opened up although it does have the refurb sticker which tears paint if it comes off.   So far honestly there is no better deal on the market. This thing is...

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

Quote: Yeah, IDK, kind of hard to take that for anything. Denon makes some pretty decent headphones and they know what they are doing I'm sure as they have been designing amps for decades. I don't really have any other choice as I'm not spending 2000 dollars on an amp when I have one...

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

Denon's mid to high-end lines are all discrete. My 2112ci is discrete and so are the two or so lines below this. As I said, receivers have come a long was since the 90s. Let's not get stuck in the crappy receiver myth. Higher-end Denons are extreme value and they are pretty much the best...

    New Beyer DT1350

While those HD25 pads are super comfy, and I will use them for movies and such late night, they alter the sound too much and way too much loss of bass. Not even sure I will keep them.   So yeah, don't be getting those if you want the nice sound these have.   Problem is, the pleather on...

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

Quote: Why would they not sound good on that receiver lol? Doesn't even make sense. That is top end quality stuff for what it does.   And anway I'm not severely picky as long as it's high-fi and the DLC/amplification does its job. Looking forward to what you think of this combo and...

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

The Denons with and past the 2112ci line are actually pretty decent networking receivers capable of two zones. 90 watts 7.1. I looked up all the DAC/ADC and stuff and it's 192k low distortion. Obviously you are limited with the chips in a big design like that but the graphs I saw all looked good...

Have about 1500 to spend. I am definitely looking at the HD800s. I use a Denon 2112CI receiver with good inputs and power. Some people seem to comment on the upper range of this headphone. Are these mostly people who like their music toned down a tad at the upper end?  I just want some damn fine...
