The wood is from a maple tree and was part of the ZMF 5/14 "stabilized" release. The colors come from the stabilization process (liquid resin dye).

I'd say get a Pelican 1440, a good insurance policy, and have a blast. Life is short, use your toys. The 1440 may have enough room for a set of headphones as well (depending on size) once you slide in the TT2/HMS combo.
