Greatest Rock Vocals Ever: Freddie Mercury, Robert Plant, Ian Gillan, Rob Halford,..?

For me? Mercury, hands down. And I'm not even a Queen fan. Plant also has a great voice, Halford is really not my style even though I think he has a fantastic voice. I could throw a few other names to the table: - Geddy Lee (Rush) - Chris Cornell (Soundgarden) - Geoff Tate...

    Symphony -x appreciation thread!

Not my favorite prog metal band, but definitely a perfect example of good prog metal. Fantastic instrumentalists (specially Michael Romeo), great singer and damn good records. If I had to pick a favorite album I'd probably say V ... but then again I might give a different answer on a...

Moving from Etymotic - where to go? UM3X, W3, SE530?

RE0? They might be the kind of neutral you're looking for. If not, they're a pretty good bet for what they sell for anyway.

    Etymotic mc-series (moving-coil based IEMs)

I gotta say I just LOVE the ety sound signature. I love(d) - they don't get much fun nowadays - my er6i, and I was blown away with the er4p's I had for a while. However, there's a serious BUT that just made me let the etys go (and not get them again when I was in the market for a new pair) which...

I'd put Nick Drake right up there with the best (Cash, Cohen, Dylan ...). He's a fantastic songwriter and I'm just sad his work only gained more recognition after his death.

    Comfortable ear plugs?

I just love my etymotic er-20 earplugs, but if you don't like them or feel they don't isolate enough, try the hearos. I use them a lot too and they are great.

Shure SE530 -- too much definition?

If you're going for bass, then I'd say IE8/TF10. IE8 if you don't mind the lesser isolation capacity and want bigger soundstage, TF10 if you prefer better sealing (but beware it might not fit you so well). If you prefer a little more detail, then I'd say se530 (or maybe UM3? ... haven't heard...

    Pick 2 - TF10 Custom/SF5pro/SE530/W1/W2/IE8

If you're keeping the TF10's I'd go with the SE530. You already have a bass-prominent pair so I think the IE8 would be little "more of the same". However, if It were my choice, I think I'd let the TF10s go and pair the IE8 with the SE530 while keeping the SF5. If you're keeping the TF10s...

Threshold and Marillion are nothing alike. Can't see Marillion as metal band as it's really not that heavy. For me they're prog rock all the way. Check out Frost* if you don't know them. Also a great prog (rock) band. I'm not very fond of Threshold. Just pointed it out because the...
