DIY Earbuds
I just bought a few bottles of synthetic fabric dye and followed the instructions on the label. There are also instructions on Youtube, here is a video from the brand I used: . The trick is probably going to be the type of plastic and how readily it absorbs the dye. My original intention was...- Punslayer

DIY Earbuds
Here's another pair, this time with the 32 Ohm Lithium Magnesium drivers. I need to spend more time listening to this driver, but I do like it. It seems to be a more mid/high focused driver, which I appreciate. The main problem for me at the moment is that I've been primarily using a tube amp...- Punslayer

DIY Earbuds
I wondered about that. I've only ordered from Aliexpress so far, but the rep. suggested that for custom requests it would be better to order from their site. I haven't tried the 120 Ohm Beryllium drivers yet, but they're on my list so I'll have to grab a pair or two the next time I order parts.- Punslayer

Yes, that's the driver. They do custom impedance on request. You can also order from their website huayunxin.net.- Punslayer

DIY Earbuds
It's been a while since I posted in this thread, but I've been making earbuds again lately and have had some success. This is my favorite so far. A 300 Ohm black LCP/DLC driver from Huayunxin with homemade cable. I dyed the shells and wire and think that everything came out really well...- Punslayer

The Utsusemi-Works Thread (Sound Dragon, Sound Tiger)
I've been using the Sound Tiger Grazioso since January and I like it quite a lot, but my use is probably a bit different than most. I have a couple of earphones with ~5 ohm impedance and a lot of amps struggle to drive that kind of load. So the Grazioso serves as a kind of buffer in those...- Punslayer

You should see the computer that the amp is plugged in to. :yum: That's the Kaei TAP1-DACs, but it's not actually driving the SR8 directly as 4.5 ohms impedance is a little too low. You can see the Sound Tiger Grazioso on the right edge of that image, which is actually driving the SR8. It's a...- Punslayer

SR8 Just arrived. Have lots of listening to do, but I'm very happy with how the shells turned out. Forgive the poor picture, not the best lighting here on the sofa. :)- Punslayer

KAEI TAP-1 Portable Hybrid Balance Headphone Amp
I got the version with DAC a couple weeks ago and so far I like it a lot. Enough that I decided to give it a bit of a makeover. I was a bit worried that taking it out of the case would make it vulnerable to RFI, but so far I haven't noticed any problems.- Punslayer

New Audio Technica IEM and portable headphone coming in October
I've also been listening to the IEX1 a lot recently, but they've been one of my favorites since I got them. I like the Comply tips that they came with and haven't really experimented much with others. It's hard to find an amp that really works well with the IEX1, but very much worth it for me...- Punslayer

Portable tube amp from china?
I only used regular alkaline AAs briefly, but no I didn't notice any difference when switching to rechargeables. In my case, the majority of my headphones are low impedance, including some that are very low. The IEX1 are only rated 5 ohms and I have read that they dip below that significantly...- Punslayer

Portable tube amp from china?
I've been using the HA-S for a few months and like it quite a lot. It does have one big limitation; 10 ohm output impedance, but it has a black background and sounds very good with everything I've tried so far. No soldering is required, so it's very easy to assemble. It is a little expensive...- Punslayer

Question about driving the fostex hpa8 amplifier (convert voltage to us?)
The internal transformer voltage can be switched by moving a jumper. It's very easy, you just need a secure screwdriver bit to open up the cover. The set I ordered is no longer available, but this one looks like to be basically the same. Once you get the cover open, the jumper is clearly...- Punslayer

FiiO K3 distortion?!
The K3 is not a particularly powerful amp, but it should be able to handle a pair of SR80. If you can, try it on a different computer to see if the behavior is the same. If so, the K3 is probably defective and you should return it. If it works on another computer, it's likely a configuration...- Punslayer

Portable DACs WITHOUT Amps
You could use a BT receiver with digital out, like the Oriolus 1795D in front of the DAC. There may be others as well, but I don't know any off the top of my head. Of course that's getting a little unwieldy, but people around here have had crazier setups.- Punslayer

Portable DACs WITHOUT Amps
There's the Oriolus BD20. It's not cheap, but I'm pretty sure it's a pure DAC although I don't have any experience with it.- Punslayer

Cayin N3Pro DAP: Dual AK4493 and MQA with Vacuum Tube
The WP900 is pretty energetic in the treble area, but I don't find it to be too harsh. Triode mode does smooth things out a bit. The isolation is not a strong point and it does leak noticeably.- Punslayer
