    My reference amp design TPA6120

I have designed a new amp based on the TPA6120 chip. Seeing the price for headphone amps like the graham slee solo is one of the reason I got into DIY (no one told me DIY was so expensive :P). I thought I could do a better job and this is what I came up with. I call it reference amp because it...

I always thought the best strings were elixir nanoweb electric. Plain steel covered some sort of ultra thin polymer so protect them from corrosion. I got my Fulltone OCD today I was looking for a better pedal than TS-808. After all, that's an old, discontinued pedal that doesn't even...

    Mid-range desktop PC (UK)

You do not need SLI, that is for enthusiasts running really hi res monitors. As for AMD vs Intel, I would go with AMD since they are cheaper and gaming performance will be bottle necked by the graphics card. Go with core 2 duo if you are gong with a high end graphics card. But now is not a...

I buy most my stuff from novatech, they are good value for money. For cheap midrange gaming PC there is this one for £445 http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...e.html?PC-1072 Or the core 2 duo virsion is a bit extra but not much http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...e.html?PC-2004

Guess what I just got Yep, a fender blues junior. And it does sound very nice indeed I was surprised how much better it sounds even on clean. Makes the marshall amp feel like cheap junk. I have not had a chance to overdrive it yet... going to wait for people to leave the house...

I will be trying to get one second hand to stretch budget as far as it will go. I dont have that much money to throw around, but it must be very nice otherwise I will only have to upgrade it later. Mesa amps are very good I hear, but they are twice the price then thats where I draw the line at...

sweet, sweet guitar tones wanted :D

hi all, i'm learning to play electric guitar and i need some distortion. My marshall amp can be overdriven, but play 2-3 notes at once with it and it makes a terrible NASTY noise! yuck! It is not useable at all. I used to own a digital multi effects pedal (zoom GFX-707). It was ok but doesnt...

Realteck ALC889A... Any good for digital output?

I was just wondering exactly the same thing just now. My codec is a Realtek ALC883. It supports 24/192 apparantly so I am keeping my fingers crossed. I think how it works is the old AC'97 spec resamples everything to 48 KHz. But the new HD Audio if you play a 96 KHz sound file, then any...

    surround simulation in headphones

Oh right thanks for that. Thats why I came here first! edit: urgh! creative make this more difficult than it needs to be! What is the difference between xtreme gamer and xtreme music? They seem the same to me apart from a couple of connectors that is missing from xtreme gamer. But extreme...

    surround simulation in headphones

I'm thinking of getting a X-Fi for its CMSS-3D Headphone capabilities. Now that creative has released a PCI-Express Xtreme Audio card that is cheap it seems perfect. But I once declared I would never buy another creative product again, so I am not so sure. The creative card is tempting because...

    I think I'm crazy...but I just have to see...

the extra impedance from gold plated brass RCA plugs (compared to pure copper plugs if anyone makes them) cannot be audible since the signal will be entering resistors and volume controls that are much, much higher impedances. same goes with copper verses silver in the conductors. you could...

    I think I'm crazy...but I just have to see...

It's one thing to claim you can hear the difference between different cables because of different dielectrics, geometry, etc (things that can make a difference). But when it comes to the conductor material, could anyone really hear a difference between copper and silver conductors? I doubt it...
