Starving Student PCB's
I'm in the market for a couple boards if anyone is still producing them or has has some to sell. I had one running for a good 6 years or so and it took a poop on me. IRF 510 burned up and took some other components with it, including a tube. Now i'm looking for a board to build a new one.- bigalila

That's true. It does not follow the normal Senn sound signature, and it is very detailed. So for Senn fans it seems bright. I liked it when I heard it through the Vali. It is on my short list of HP's I want.- bigalila

They are mid-centric, but some people really like that about them. I'd prefer if they were a little more neutral. I enjoyed them for the short time I owned them, but they didn't really fit the sound signature I was looking for at the time. I EQ'ed them down in the midrange a little and it...- bigalila

Go visit this thread: http://www.head-fi.org/t/618659/fostex-t50rp-incremental-mods-and-measurements There is a bunch of information and tests done on pads as well as other mods. Some of the people in there should be helpful as well. Good luck with the HD700. It is a very bright...- bigalila

DIY Cable Gallery!!
Got a set of FA-011's in today that I purchased from another user here. They started off as the black wood version. After a whole lot of sanding I was able to get them back down to bare wood then dye it a new color. While the clear coat was drying, I made the cable. Mogami 2893 sleeved in...- bigalila

DIY Cable Gallery!!
Got bored tonight and made two more cables. Mogami W2893 stripped down and sleeved in 275 paracord. First cable is 1.5m long with 1/4" Amphenol and MCX connectors. Second cable is for my ATH M50's, is 1m long with 1/8" Amphenol and MCX termination. Still waiting on some more female MCX...- bigalila

The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread
I've got the DT880pro 250 ohm and have run them off both the Schiit Magni2 and the Vali. They sound great powered by both amps. I prefer the sound of the Vali, but if you plan on running IEM's or lower impedance headphones go with the Magni. The noise floor on the Vali is quite noticeable...- bigalila

Good point, he might believe that's the same as a mechanical connection. I also agree with you you on the holes and posts, but we don't really see too many of those on the tiny connections we use. Thank you for wording that so well. A lot of people on here are worried about types of...- bigalila

Sorry, I did fudge the math a little. I guess I should actually stop fishing next time. Anyways... what mechanical connection are you going on about? There is no mechanical connection available in most of the connections we use in our cables and connectors. You could count twisting wires...- bigalila

A lead tin alloy solder actually has almost the same resistance and conductivity as pure copper wire. A good weld with proper "penetration" joins the two metals together as one. Penetration in a weld is how deep the metal was heated beyond it's critical temperature and was able to flow together mixing the metals of the pieces being joined. Heating the metal to glowing red [right at the...- bigalila

DIY Cable Questions and Comments Thread
Uhmmm... not true. Maybe if you are not tinning before you solder, you could get a good mechanical connection between the two conductive surfaces. Until you solder the joint that is. When soldering the joint it would take more pressure than you can provide with the tip of your soldering iron...- bigalila
