    SR60-Mod

Hello again,   Yes the Handitak is yellow but I also use foam on the screen to make some backpressure for the cups that we have been modifying. This foam is dark enough so as not to see the Handitak. The foam is quite usefull too. It is soncially inert and can be used on the screens or as a...

    SR60-Mod

Hello all,   I have found an alternative to Dynamat for a fraction of the price. They are both made from butyl rubber with the exact same consistancy. I have used the stuff on my Grado's with much success. It's called Handitak and could be found vitually everywhere in the adhesives section or...

    SR60-Mod

I own both a modded SR125 and the RS-1's. I have been using MDF and PVC on the 125's and have done extensive listening. I actually have lined both types of cups with a material called 'Funny Foam'. It works wonders in tightening up the bass and removing any resonances. I will do a long winded...

    SR60-Mod

I thought I should chime in on this thread since I had done some of these mods and was stunned at the difference. I have some older SR-125's and have really loved them over the years but I had a couple complaints about their sound signature, enough so that I had purchased some RS-1's. I use the...

    Bose PM-1... POS CD player?

No line out for an amp, but it does have plenty of power if you want to have some quick quality listening. I should mention that I have been listening to Bose thru Grado's SR125's. I realize how Bose does market and overprice things but the $40 range for this player is REAL hard to beat.

    Bose PM-1... POS CD player?

I read the reviews here about the Bose cd player and decided to buy one. Seems that a lot of people are buying the Triports and putting the cd player up on e-bay. This is where I bought mine($37). I see a lot of people are asking for current PCDP's that sound very well and I must admit this...

    DCP-150 on ebay for $675

Well bidding is over $150 with a day to go. I think people are trying to find out where the reserve is. For some reason I think the reserve is WAY up there. I have to figure what I have paid for mine: Sony D-25s (nib) $40 (best looking) D-303 (nib) $35 (best deal by a mile) Optimus...

I want chime in about the Sony dE-406-CK. This was my rig when I first came to this site and then saw all the recommendations. I couldn't wait to get my hands on a recommended player mentioned here. I started gathering players mentioned here and noticed they were not much better than the 406. To...

DCP-70 - is this the Denon sound?

I really enjoy both of these portables (D-25S, D-303). I was really lucky when I purchased both of them. I bought the d-25S from Silicon Salvage and have had no problems with it at all. I was also very lucky with the d-303. This was brand new, in the box, about a year ago on E-bay for $60. This...

DCP-70 - is this the Denon sound?

I tried my 7506's with the Denon. It was a little better but still really unbalanced. I think I actually prefer the Grados. The 7506's (being closed headphones) really brought out the bass and dark tonal quality of the Denon. I have the Optimus cd-3400 and I don't like that sound at all either...

DCP-70 - is this the Denon sound?

I got my first Denon a couple of months ago and it has remain on the 'shelf' since I first heard it. I went thru the same thing also. The sound is muffled with a great deal of bass. Not balanced at all. The ones we have are the two lowest Denons in the chain. I can't speak for the DCP-150, but I...

What's the most you'd pay for headphones?

I spent $480 on a pair of RS-1's. I know I will probably never own and other top of the line audio gear so I threw caution to the wind. I know $480 is nothing to some, but my main interest is my home rig. I worked up to the RS-1's from the Sony MDR-7506's to the SR-125's to the RS-1's. doug

    Headphones vs. Speakers

Getting back to the original thread. I listen to headphones with a different intent than I listen to louspeakers. Each has their strengths and weaknesses. I know all the hi-end stereo magazines tend to snub their noses at headphones, and I don't know why. Maybe because they don't cost a...

    Headphones vs. Speakers

For some reason I thought that the older Swans had Seas drivers. Not a lot of Diy'rs use Hi-Vi Research drivers. My speculation is that there are more tried and true drivers at the same, if not better price. Hi-Vi is not cheap. I don't think they spec out as well either.

    Headphones vs. Speakers

You have met Joe D'Appolito?? I do like the vertical dispersion that an MTM can give. I tryed it with a 2nd order as opposed to a 3rd and the 3rd order gives a much better vertical dispersion. Some manufacturers are using 4th orders with an MTM, namely the Krell LAT-1. Evidently 4th order takes...

    Headphones vs. Speakers

The cabinets are heavily braced 3/4 " MDF with and inner lining of a thin sort of polymer rubber to absorb cabinet vibrations.
