DAC equivalent to Arcam CD93
Anyone have any experience with this player or the FMJ CD33 and could tell me what standalone DAC would sound the same or better? I'm looking for one to put with some kind of music server. The Arcam has a sound I like, great soundstage, clear highs, good balance, good detail. It uses 4 x Wolfson...- Rlynn

Nina Rota's "La Strada"
I have the Pons/Granada recording and can recommend it. It is a nice edition with a 30 page (in each of 4 languages) booklet describing the films and music and with photos. -
Yuja Wang, the next big thing?
She also has power. I heard her perform a recital of modern works about a year ago. Like the reviewer in the link below, I thought the Bartok Sonata was the most impressive. (I didn't hear the recital in San Francisco, but it was the same program.) Ligeti, Liszt, Scriabin, Bartok, Ravel:*... -

Recommend me music: classical / orchestral
Is there a particular piece or composer, something you've heard and liked? That would make it easier to make recommendations. Classical music enthusiasts always have their favorites. If you just need to get started, this list has a wide variety of styles: The A List - Audiophilia. As you can... -
What classical music should I try?
If you are a university student, check the library to see of they have a subscription to the Naxos Classical Music Library. This would allow you to hear a huge selection of music. Also check the thread about the Concergtebouw downloads. Besides the three symphonies that Haitink conducted, the... -
Cleaning LPs
I didn't feel I had enough LPs to justify the cost of a record cleaning machine. The thrift store finds were dirty and noisy enough to find some good inexpensive way of cleaning them. We have a small carpet/upholstery cleaner, the kind used for spot cleaning. It has a four inch wide nozzle. I...- Rlynn

Artists appreciated after a change in amp/source/HP?
Similar experiences here. With each improvement in my equipment, the poorly recorded or re-mastered albums are much more listenable. Two CDs of Chopin's Nocturnes, one of Sergio Fiorentino from an LP and one of Dino Ciani from a rather poor live concert tape are magical. Without the more... -
Where to start with Gabriel Faure
Gil Shaham, with Arika Eguchi and Brinton Smith, has a beautiful album that includes the Violin Sonata No. 1, the Piano Trio and several shorter pieces for violin. There is a set of the solo piano music by Jean Hubeau that I enjoy very much. It is the solo pieces only and does not the include... -

Lossless downloads @ Deutsche Grammophon
Looks to me that buying from the UK retailers MDT and Linn, those in Europe and the US are benefiting from the weak pound. I know MDT charges in pounds and the conversion is made at the time of billing and looks like Linn does the same, though have not bought from them. Of course, this situation... -

favourite "original sound track" album
Interesting that this thread should appear now as I am listening to WHRO Connoisseur Classics stream this Saturday. Just finished playing is Patrick's Doyle's OST for Branagh's Henry V. Now playing is Hirschfelder's score for Elizabeth. I just found this station, but it appears they often play... -
