They have decent bass extension but not the best impact/punch. Best bass of any open headphones I've ever heard, however.

  definitely microphonics.   it never does that with my Lyr, but on my old little dot II++ amp, it had a lot of noises from the tubes.  mostly while they were heating up.  once they were heated completely (30 minutes or so), they'd stop making noises.  didn't bother me though, I got used to it.

When possible, it's known that digital coax is still slightly better than toslink optical, and usually better than finicky usb.  (though higher end usb converters are getting much better lately, like schiit's usb upgrade)   I use my soundcard for the digital coax out.  The soundcard I use also...

These headphones give me the chills when I hear female vocals.  If headphones can get better than this.... I'm in for a treat.  (and to think, the crack w/speedball isn't here yet, and should improve upon what I'm hearing through my Lyr)

VERY interested in your thoughts on the differences between the two. I'm content with the HD650's, but I have that itch to get something "better".  The LCD2's have been in my sights since I hear they're similar to the HD650's in that they're slightly darker than neutral. 

  I've heard first gen 650's and didn't think they were veiled at all.  I think they're only veiled when compared to brighter headphones.  But I prefer my headphones that way.  Much less fatiguing.
