The other problem is, even if the headphones are BT4.1, the device has to be BT4.1 too. So right now iPhone doesn't have support for 4.1, only 4.0, so any change to the m2's bt4.1 will be nullified until Apple update to bt4.1 :-( Really not much we can do in this scenario.     Oh great...

  Your Sony BT headphones could be BT3 not BT4, it's BT4 that has the issue. BT4.1 improves that in some situations. You might even find that different mobile networks offer different performance.

The m2 lack bass? From others they have said that the bass is as good as the original m1's and from what I've heard when I tried the m1's they had a ton more bass than something like the HD 598s.

There is talk of LTE interference with BT4, try disabling your data connection on your phone and try it out and see if that fixes it temporarily, my expectation is that it will be fine. Not much you can do though to rectify it other than disabling 4G and only using 3G.

Sure you can really affect the range depending on your implementation, antenna, shape, size, etc. Look at the Bose sound link mini, it has terrible range, but most of that is due to the enclosure and the antenna just at the top part of the device. Also BT version makes a difference too as well...
