bearFNF has a point. Make sure to look at your RCA/XLR cable inputs.

    Headamp Blue Hawaii Special Edition

Video was taken down due to certain folks frying the amp when it wasn't necessary to adjust.

May you share the serial numbers? Mine is in the 400s. I've heard the first batch of Omega's (0 - 100/200) have the signature you describe.

That's a great take on it. Omega has the less lush and more neutral perspective compared to R10's rich tone and timbre. What is also deceiving about the R10 when compared to stats is how fast it is - even though it's utilizing outdated technology and has dynamic "organic" drivers.

The Omega may sometimes sound strange and unnatural due to the "diffuse" sound field/stage. Def prefer R10's holographic presentation in this regard which I think is a critical component of the aforementioned timbre.

Agreed. Classical and especially female vocals, R10s are out of this world. I own a bass light version but would def want to hear a bass heavy version.

Many might think that the R10s are vastly overrated or most of its feedback is based off its legendary aura/marketing from Sony. Don't believe that. When you try the R10, you will see that it is unlike any headphone ever produced in the past. There is a reason it still serves as an inspiration...

    The Stax Thread III

Capacitance is the most important factor related to 'stats cables. Anything else is imagined.

    The Stax Thread III

Love the banter and the weak sarcasm. From the impressions it was quite clear that it couldn't be the original drivers as I'd never describe them as dull/boring. The original drivers have remarkable tone and upper mid range qualities that is rare for a 'stat.

    The Stax Thread III

You are saying the same exact thing I am saying so in essence "non-sense". I have seen many of the 007 drivers in SR-Omega missing the rivets, especially if Stax did the driver replacements. Just FYI, I own a SR-Omega with original drivers.

    The Stax Thread III

It would explain why he mentioned it sounded darker and "duller". The original SR Omega sound has a somewhat hot treble and upper range, obviously dependent on the amplifier.

    The Stax Thread III

Show us a pic under different light. The original Omega drivers will have those rivets, the 007 will not and will be just one "plane". Still can't tell from this pic.

    The Stax Thread III

Nope, his are the original Omega drivers as can be seen with the rivets on the 2nd pic.

Take notice of the diffuse sound stage that this headphone does that no other headphone comes close to.

The JPS Labs: Abyss AB-1266 Impressions Thread

The only thing HD800 may be "better" (subjective of course) than the 1266 is the holographic sound stage presented due to the black magic driver angling setup by Sennheiser. Otherwise, on every other facet 1266 decimates it.

    Sony MDR-R10 Owner's Club

You know what's interesting, if you listen to the HD800 now in 2022 they sound... vintage. MDR-R10 has a certain je ne sais quoi on the mid range combined with that "reverby" sound stage that nothing can replicate. I wonder how the ESLabs R10 fare in that regard?
  21. dukeskd

    Sony MDR-R10 Owner's Club

This actually mirrors my impressions. I think the HD800 has an edge in the "3D" image positioning sense but sound stage breadth and width are hands down in R10's favor.

May try that out but I have to admit the sound is amazing after all is said is done, not sure how much more it can improve :)
