That sounds sensible advice. I would add you can do better than SS3602 if you're using external opamps anyway. SS2590s are a significant step up, for one. I have some additional opamps that just arrived to try over the coming few days.

Apologies, I had an XD05 PRO on trial last August for a week or so, but only bought one in the last few weeks so skipped about 100 pages of posts. I never use Turbo mode so it doesn't bother me regardless. As you say, more interesting to focus on other topics.

I'm not sure I want to venture back down the charger rabbit hole, but can you clarify what you mean by, "you can't use Turbo mode"? I'm using a GaN USB-C desktop charging station with my XD05. It shows it's delivering 12V to the XD05 whether in Eco, Normal or Turbo modes, no issues as far as I...

There are a couple of options I'd consider, which I think you refer to: 1) USB-C to USB-C - you'll just use the M6 Ultra as your music source, so the XD05 PRO acts as DAC and amp 2) Line Out from M6U to Line In on XD05 PRO - assuming you have a proper balanced Line Out function in the M6U (not...

I asked one of my friends about this, and he knows a lot more about DACs that I do. His recommendation was to "use I2S if your DAC has that digital input. The native language DACs see is I2S, all other digital inputs are converted to I2S internally anyway hence why using that input, if...

Unfortunately there are always compromises to be made, aren't there? The XD05 PRO with SS3602s is still, to my ears, a brilliant-sounding device. Trying different opamps is a fun experiment and one I'll continue when time permits, but I'm more than happy with the 3602s for transportable duties...

I've been trying an alternative approach to opamp rolling with the XD05 PRO. I have a Little Bear B4-X amp that allows for opamp rolling, so have tried the Sonic Imagery Labs 994s in that unit. They work perfectly so I wonder if the output from the DAC stage in the XD05 is just too much for the...

Thanks for sharing the link to the pci-e card - that's great. I'm in the UK so have the same issues with Taobao, plus I can't read Chinese. Google Translate helps to some extent, but it feels we're still a bit restricted in terms of access to some great options here in Europe.

I think the pci-e approach is the simplest way of installing larger opamps. Others here have posted more advanced solutions that require modifying the opamp board; my soldering skills are woeful so I've avoided that! The pci-e card will stick up when installed so you need some sort of cover to...

I've been doing a little more testing with alternative opamps. I have a pair of Sonic Imagery Labs 994Enh-Ticha opamps, which are either faulty or don't get on at all well with the XD05. There's a lot of background noise compared to any other opamp I've tried so I've ruled those out. I've been...

I wouldn't and haven't, personally. It depends on your use case, of course, but I think the case is too nice to put feet on it. Also, it doesn't seem to require the (marginal) additional cooling feet would provide.

My pci-e cards arrived the other day so I've finally had time for some initial testing with the SS2590s in XD05 PRO. Despite the clear lack of practicality, I feel the SS2590s enhance the sound quite significantly. I've only spent 30 mins listening so have yet to draw firm conclusions. The stage...

On a different topic, I thought I'd try testing the XD05 PRO into a different external amp. I've just received a Sound Tiger Sinfonia from Utsusemi Works in Japan, which is fundamentally a power amp. It offers low / high gain, and that's it. Ideally, a variable line out would be the best option...

One more thought, and I don't know if you have the option. Have you tried running the line out into a separate amp? If might help determine whether your issues are associated with the opamp stage or DAC. The line out should bypass the opamp stage. With regard to Turbo mode - I rarely use it. I...

The R2R module was on display at the Shanghai Headphone Expo a couple of weeks ago, so hopefully it will be available by mid year. With CanJam Shanghai in June, I'd be surprised if we don't see a near final / final version there.

I know this has been mentioned a few times, but I received one of the Trulis XD05 PRO cases earlier today. It fits perfectly with everything aligned and doesn't add much (more!) bulk. I left my XD05 PRO running for about 8 hours today, just in Eco mode. Temp felt no different to when running...

Really helpful, thank you. I'm still trying to find a way of sourcing the buffers, but they look an interesting idea.

Thank you. I'm awaiting delivery of a couple of the pci-e boards, hopefully within the next 1-2 weeks. There are other opamps I'd like to try before the Muses03 though, e.g. V7 Classics, Muzg Audio JFET opamps.

Good point. I was just thinking about using two, hadn't occurred to me to install four (doh!). Would they fit inside with the dual DIP8 adapter?

Very interesting to read your impressions of the V6 Vivids - thank you. I wasn't a massive fan of those opamps compared to the V6 Classics, SIL 994s, SS2590s and even SS3602s. As you say, it's fun to try different options to see what suits your tastes and library. One comment on the Muses03 -...

Very sorry to hear that. As others have said, it sounds like you really need to return your unit, if that's possible. I think we've all run out of alternative suggestions.

Thanks, Mike, that sounds a great combo. If you're using the 4.4 line out from the XD05 PRO, aren't you effectively bypassing the opamp stage and just using the DAC? I assume the choice of opamps wouldn't make any difference in that situation, but perhaps I'm wrong.
  24. LoneFurrow

    XDUoo XD05PRO

Of course. All my IEMs have balanced 4.4 connectors so I tend to stick with those unless the amp is SE only (I have a few of those).

The SS3602s are the next step up from the V5iDs, imho. I have both and have kept the SS3602s installed. Anything larger won't fit within the case, although I'm keen to try the Burson V7 Classics at some point once I have a suitable mounting option.
