    Avantone : Pro Planar

This is one of the aspects of listening to a headphone or speaker that is tuned very well and this is what makes the Planars such a good studio tool. They can sound very different depending on what music you’re listening to. You’re listening to the frequency response of the music instead of the...

    Avantone : Pro Planar

I thought it was missing a ton of sub bass first as well, but I think the drivers need broken in and the bass extension changes dramatically.

    Avantone : Pro Planar

I agree completely with the your conclusion except that I find the S4X more neutral in the midrange. Planar is slightly forward in the 800-900Hz range. I own both and will probably continue to own both. S4X sounds more neutral and full range without EQ, while Planar benefits greatly from slight...

    Avantone : Pro Planar

I’ve already used them to mix on and have no problem wearing them for multiple hours. Probably just depends on the person.

    Avantone : Pro Planar

Mine have the same lump in the headband, but only bother me when they’re on the back part of the top of my head. When I move the headband forward a bit, I stop feeling It.

    Avantone : Pro Planar

The price is very fair for what you’re getting no my opinion. I’ve spent a lot more on headphones and been less impressed than I am with these.

    Avantone : Pro Planar

Here are the subtle EQ adjustments I made to bring these headphones up a notch. I did this solely based on listening and comparing to my Amphion One15 speakers that are calibrated in my treated room and comparing them to the Ollo S4X. Hopefully you find it helpful! Low Shelf, +3dB, 60Hz, 0.7Q...

    Avantone : Pro Planar

I think the sound punches far above its price. I think it in someway bests headphones costing 3 times as much. Yeah, it’s not perfect. The build could be better, but I wouldn’t say it’s in any way bad. Some of hifimans more expensive products feel cheaper than this.

    Avantone : Pro Planar

Avantone comes out on top in both aspects. I would describe the imaging on the Ollo S4X as good. Soundstage is small, but you can locate everything rather precisely. The Avantone planars have a significantly bigger soundstage with a nice left to right and forward depth. Soundstage is certainly...

    Avantone : Pro Planar

The only thing I prefer with the sound of the Ollo headphones is the low end extends lower and is a bit punchier. They’re also better built and lighter which seems like something you’d appreciate! Other than that, they’re equal or the planars beat them out.

    Avantone : Pro Planar

It’s interesting that you find them uncomfortable. I’m not that sensitive to headphone weight, but still don’t find these that heavy. Overall they are very comfortable for me. As far as the build quality, I can partly agree with what you’re talking about. All the materials feel high quality...

    Avantone : Pro Planar

Haven’t been on this forum in a long time. My headphone obsession that started 8 years ago lead me to becoming an audio engineer starting over 6 years ago. Anyway, came across this thread when looking into these headphones. Just got them in the mail today and they are spectacular.

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

About a month ago I bought the He400i because of how cheap they are. I had bought them a year ago and decided I needed the money despite how good they sounded and how much I liked their sound. Well this time my impressions weren't the same. I've gotten a lot better at audio engineering in the...

    Best sounding headphones for $80

Grados actually aren't too bad for gaming, and they're incredible for rock music. The only thing is that they don't isolate and they leak a heck of a lot of noise. But the sr60e's are your best bet for $80 if you can live without the isolation.

Your 5 newest CDs (or LPs)

Yes, it is them! I just got the standard 1 CD edition without all of the bonus tracks. Compared to the original they sound infinitely clearer, if a tad bit compressed. They aren't overly compressed though, so that's good. I always had a tough time listening to their older albums because of how...

Koss Pro DJ 100 - The Budget King

I just bought these cans with m50 pads, and woooow! They were like $60 with the pads, and easily beat my sr80is. Wonderful soundstage, and wonderful clarity. I'm running them off a schiit modi and schiit vali.

Full album at a time or whole library on random

I'm, in general, a person that listens to entire albums. But there are times when there is a track on album I don't particularly care for, so I skip it. But other than that. I listen to entire albums.

Show us your Head-Fi station at it's current state. No old pictures please...

Considering you can get them for $40 on amazon, they're amazing. They are surprisingly neutral sounding and also reveal quite a bit of detail. The slight treble roll-off also makes them much easier to listen to than my sr80i's.
