Great review.  I bought the Beyerdynamics based on Jude's review.  I agree with most of what he had to say.  I would add that they don't sound great right out of the box... very hollow sounding, as if music was being played in a tunnel.  Lacked bass as well.  After about 30 hours of listening...

I heard good things about the Buffalo 3 and am ready to buy a DAC but am not clear about exactly what it is.  Is this a DIY project?  If so, does anyone know of someone who can build it out for me?  Also, does it take audio from the computer via USB?     Any input is appreciated.
