Coming week will be Cowon J3, Fischer Audio DBA-02, and then, what portable amps, if any?

Update,   still waiting the FA DBA-02 replacement. First one had something wrong with the treble on the right.   Greg

Coming week will be Cowon J3, Fischer Audio DBA-02, and then, what portable amps, if any?

Some news here:   I received the J3 today. I'm really happy that it arrived in time, without too much Customs problems. The J3 is immaculate, no glass corner syndrom. I'm under Mac OSX and till now, no problem, but I use a special Python script I wrote to delete all hidden files and...

Coming week will be Cowon J3, Fischer Audio DBA-02, and then, what portable amps, if any?

Thanks for your advice. Anyway, no money left at the mo for a portable amp.    And now, right treble of DBA-02 is wrong. Have to send them back...   Hope the J3 will not have the right corner glass up symptom...   Usually, I got ALL the problems possible when ordering something just...

    Review: Fischer Audio's DBA-02

Ok,   Mine seem to lack of treble in the right channel. I tried some test soundfiles, some ears-swaping, some channels-swaping, and one of the earphone seems to produce no treble or very few. Mine comes from http://www.zococity.es/ and will be back to them soon for another pair, hoping to...

10 Biggest Lies in Audio (accidental repost - sorry!)

Most interesting reading. Most parts were known, but it's good to hear them again and again, one quickly dreams about these outrageously price Hi-end stuff... Now, I believe in superiority of a good electronic design over a bad one. One can see in simple measurements the effects of such...

    Review: Fischer Audio's DBA-02

I let them run since received them, so some hours. At the very beginning, I found them shrilly, but maybe that was insertion problem. Now I achieved to use the triple flange, that are too floppy really, and have a really nice sound. Bass is definitely more refined compared to the low-enders I...

    Review: Fischer Audio's DBA-02

I received my DBA-02, burning them now.   I just wanted to add that now they are shipped with their usual black S/M/L rounded tips, but also with a black very soft triple flange, a clear round tip with green tube and a smoke one with blue tube, seeming to be a little bit less soft than the...

Coming week will be Cowon J3, Fischer Audio DBA-02, and then, what portable amps, if any?

Hi,   I read it toroughly indeed :-). And was practically convinced this was the one. Except the form and finish of the Arrow is maybe better, but what the heck when it's only about SQ. I'll remake the panels myself if I need to spice it up.   Now Crossfeed, and especially the Linkwitz...

Coming week will be Cowon J3, Fischer Audio DBA-02, and then, what portable amps, if any?

Now I did some DIY headphone amps some years ago (HeadWize was still up and active...).   So, How would a Mini3 compare with the iBasso D12, Practical Devices XM6, Headstage Arrow and Leckerton Audio UHA-4?   Thanks,

Portable Rig (DAP/Amp/IEM) Case-fi (please post pics)

I was thinking about modding a Red Moleskine Agenda. There are some with dimension 9X14X2 cm. Replacing all pages by two neoprene rectangles glued to the front and back covers would let me arrange a J3 on the right and some ultra slim amp on the left (UHA-4, Arrow, whatever) and iems.  ...

I found also the Leckerton Audio UHA-4, that seems to implement Linkwitz crossfeed, and some here find it better than the Arrow (except for size and aesthetic).   Comment on this one welcome too.

Hi,   So,   I decided to go serious about music on the go. I have Hi-End CD player and amps at home, with some serious headphone amps made myself, driving Grado SR-325i.   Now I chase the dragon for some time, dreaming of my sony DD Quartz walkman of old, but decided that the time...

Earphones or IEMs closest to Grado SR-325i?

Hi,   I would like to know if there are earphones or IEMs that would have a sonic signature close to the Grados. I mean deep and clean bass, not boomy or inyerface, detailed highs, with real space and depth, round sound, entertaining :-).   Thanks for your suggestions,   Best

ok ok guys,   I should not have begun this "My OS is better than yours". Let's stay focus on the Cowon :-).

Just a question,   is there a way to implement a crossfeed filter in the Cowon? Some BBE+ effects settings could more or less mimic it? Or maybe it exists a dedicated system for this?   Thanks again,

Ok,   All the bugs, even now with the latest FW of the D3, and complexity of upgrading it with Android led me to order a J3 32Gb white. Thanks to all for your comments and advices, even contradictory, all very useful.   I'll let you know here how things go for me.   Greg

Cowon D3 Plenue. Review. With Photos.

So,   basically, the solution would be a shell script, or python script, or whatever, cleaning the Cowon drive after access by the Mac... That should not be terribly complex.   I'll try to write down something.   To be honest, and without wanting to begin a war here, Mac is a...

Just,   meanwhile, I found other sources that seem to have them in stock (S9, J3, D3). But now, I'm really confused and ennoyed.   S9, 2yrs old, SQ very good, on top of everything avail (except maybe some upmarket fancy stuff like Hifiman), limited to max 32Gb, interface moddable through...

Cowon D3 Plenue. Review. With Photos.

Ok,   I think Mac is creating hidden files and folders in disks/folders it opens. Usually, these are hidden simply by the old UNIX trick consisting of a name begining with a dot (.) Under a Mac, one cannot usually see these, unless opening a UNIX terminal, and browsing in shell (cd XXX, cd...

Cowon D3 Plenue. Review. With Photos.

Hi,   just read the entire thread... Ouch!   I'm tempted by the D3, even with all the critics, that eventually have more or less practically all been adressed in Firmware update. I just have one question: is it compatible/usable with an Apple macbook? I'll just connect it through USB...

Actually, I got a Grado SR-325i indeed, for some years now... I mainly use it to listen to my home made MMM, or Mcube, or alternatively my home made Millett Hybrid.   Basically, what I need to do when I first boot is to choose out of Europe, and that will do it for the volume limitation...

Into better source search: Cowon S9 vs. Sony NWZ-A847

Hi,   Thanks for all the good infos. I'll check the S9 and J3 in the shop in Brussels here, and for 32Gb, price difference is 'only' 40€, so I think for all the advantages, I'll go for this one. And that's true that I prefer my music lossless or the less lossy possible, so that will take...

Can you comment further about J3 and S9? What differences, pros and cons of each?   Cowon takes micro-SD cards as memory extension?   Is it easy to change themes under Mac OS X?   Are they well built, solid, hard wearing?   Thanks a lot again,
