Which CD do you use as a reference for testing new equipment?
French Arias with Magdalena Kožená (DG 474 214-2). At the moment I find it presents all the important facets of recorded music: Drama and presence with a huge dynamic span, details, concert hall acoustics and impeccable recording craftsmanship. I did not like Deutsche Grammophon some 10...- guest

Burn-In: Is it really necessary?
I definitely believe in burn-in or break-in or what ever, for most audio equipment. Although I did not think it needed it, a new filtered power-strip sounded worse than the $5 one I had, until after about 50 hours. Then, it's congested sound all of a sudden opened up. I was just about to...- guest

Best Opening Sequence in Classical Music?
The Lark is Ascending by Elgar is pretty good I think, provided a good rig to make that solo violin shine with a nice crisp highly tuned rasp. Tube amplifying of course. Satie´s Gymnopedie´s all begin with some excellent impressionistic art too. -
The Singlepower 12 volt amp is here!
SACD Lover, I am curious about your impressions of your new JAN-12sn7's Hytron , especially in the gain position. Don´t tell us you have not tested them yet. Nobody has that kind of patience with newly acquired tubes BTW how´s the bass with the NU 12SN7GT black-glass? My JAN-CNU black-glass...- guest

The Singlepower 12 volt amp is here!
I try to be selective in the choice of 6SN7s and 12SN7s. The prices for 6SN7s keeps rising, and now I have the feeling 12SN7 is following the trend. Last dealer I contacted wanted $10 per tube only to go and look what he had in house What´s the 7N7 and 14N7 path looking like? Has anybody...- guest

Thanks Len. I PMed you. Me too WulfmanJax. I will definitely cool down in buying tubes and only focusing on NIB and the well known quality brands and years. But with the risk of making my self an even better laughing stock , I will have to say that my 1970? Sovteks, according to my...- guest

Sorry, I´m new at this. I hope the picture will be attached now. On the left is the Zaerux and the right the alleged Brimar. The Zaerux labels is pretty much what can be seen on the picture. No print on the base and on the glass you can see a largely worn off Zaerux logo. The guy who sold...- guest

The plates look more like a T shape, actually, grey, but I am just beginner (I tried to attach a picture, is it visible?). Have I got two relabeled 6SN7´s of a third brand? This is getting interesting! If they turn out to be fakes, I do not care that much since they have such sublime sound...- guest

Thanks. Got them from somebody on ebay. Should have tried to get him selling more. I should add though, that the Brimars only have some 15 hours on them so far. But at the moment, they sound vey similar to the Zaurux. Have you got any similar experience?- guest

Hi all. I´m new here and have been reading with open mouth for a couple of months. You have been such a invaluable help. Convinced me to buy a MPX3 (Solen I, Jensen coupling capacitors, 12V/6V heater and pre-out). Perhaps a funny thing: I tried a couple of NOS Zaerux 6SN7GT´s as output and...- guest
