Stunning RKV MKII mod experience
That sucks! I just got the 2590's in and was planning to try shifting things around. Sorry to hear it didn't work on yours.- Blorton

Stunning RKV MKII mod experience
Let's see if this pic works. If you look down at the board level near the tubes, there are a pair of 1" circuit boards with little discrete components on them. That's the Sparkos.- Blorton

Stunning RKV MKII mod experience
Well, I still have my old one around. I had considered moving these Sparkos to that one to see how that sounds and getting the even fancier ones for this new variation. However - just as a sanity check, I spent a lot of time looking at the differences between the two boards when I got this new...- Blorton

Stunning RKV MKII mod experience
Tubes don't have the effect in this amp as they do in other designs. You just want a set that work is all. All I've done is swap opamps. Others have upgraded caps and other parts, and their threads may still be around here.- Blorton

Stunning RKV MKII mod experience
Hi guys! Bringing this one back from the dead to say that the Sparkos 3601 work amazingly well in the final RKV HAA edition. Really makes the HD800S sing. Since the 3601 is unity gain stable, I’m sure it would also work in the earlier generations.- Blorton

HD800s
I've used the following with mine: Jotunheim 2, EF400, Topping L70, Ncore2 and my trusty old audiovalve RKV. I listen at higher volumes so an amp that supports balanced mode and has lots of power is important to me. I liked the old RKV so much with these that I just bought the "new" HAA...- Blorton

Modern RKV equivalents?
Hey Guys, It's been awhile. I'm rocking a pair of HD800s these days and have been been enjoying the Jot2 and more recently, the Topping L70. Both in balanced mode. However, I dusted off the RKV MkII this week and got it going again with a new set of tubes. Really enjoying listening to it. I...- Blorton

HiFiMan HE5SE versus the original HE5
The NewFantatasia silver-plated cable just came in. Interesting.... mainly wanted more length than the factory cable and figured these would be hard not to try for the price. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07J2J3MCW- Blorton

HiFiMan HE5SE versus the original HE5
Dusting off the old account here to share my enthusiasm for these cans. I just picked up the H5SE on the Adorama deal - under $300 to my door is a stupid good deal for these things. I've been wanting a change from the HD650 and these are great. Fwiw, the owners manual states they need 150 hours...- Blorton

EarSonics SM3 Appreciation, Discussion, & Review Thread - Technically Best Universal? (see first post for reviews and info)
Can someone please comment on these as compared to the RE0's and UE SF5 pros? Also, any comments regarding how much they stick out would be greatly appreciated as well. I sometimes use iem's with a motorcycle helmet and I can't have an Uhuru-esque thing sticking way out there, if you get...- Blorton

New and Improved Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 5 v2.0 - Huge Sound in a Tiny Package.
Just picked these up today at Fry's for $80 to replace the wiring-shagged RE0's. I needed something quick for a road trip and so far, I'm liking them! The jury is still out, but they do seem a bit more dynamic. I've only tried the attached tips so far, but will for sure be trying the others...- Blorton

Head Direct REO vs Etymotic ER-6i
Lol - I've used my re0's while riding a loud motorcycle. They block out noise just fine up to about 70mph. :) Riding inside a bus won't even be a challenge.- Blorton

HD600 cable upgrade - worth it?
Well, I'm too late to join in the bashfest, but perhaps my experience may help. On my HD650, I tried several cables, and found that the Silver Dragon made a big difference over the stock cables. Much more detailed in the upper ranges and just more articulate overall. Of course, I drive...- Blorton

RE0's and wiring breakdowns. Has anyone recabled these?
So the wiring inside the plug on mine have worked loose. I'm seriously thinking about trying to cut the plug open and doing a repair, or was thinking of opening them up or sending them off for a complete recable. Has anyone done that on these? I know these aren't a high dollar set worthy...- Blorton

Head Direct REO vs Etymotic ER-6i
Well, I think I can give you more information than you want to know. :) I started out with the Er6i a couple of years ago, and moved to the re0. The re0 is clearly a much better piece, in all aspects, it's not even close. Since you mention a preference for midrange detail, you will want to...- Blorton

How is the wiring holding up on these? Just trying to avoid a repeat of my re0 experience, where the wiring inside the plug has come loose.- Blorton

Stunning RKV MKII mod experience
Hi Guys! Bringing this one back from the dead to see if anyone ever got around to trying the AD744's..... My RKV is still kicking butt with the 637's and I never did get around to upgrading the caps. Cheers! Dan- Blorton

Looking for a hybrid diy > RKV MkII.
I love my modded RKV and am interested in seeing what diy choices are out there that would represent an upgrade from it. What do you guys recommend? I'd prefer something pcb-based and with a parts cost not in the thousands like Millet's "Unnecessarily Complex" amp. Hehehe. Thanks, Dan- Blorton

Need replacement pointer for transformer in Headamp(Gilmore)
Thanks Pars! I just measured down the psu chain and it seems to be okay, but something on vreg- opamp seems weird. Gonna double check it. I seem to be seeing around 16v on the rails now. (scratches head) I'm getting 1.7v on each of the LED's in the amp sections. But I just slipped and shorted...- Blorton

Need replacement pointer for transformer in Headamp(Gilmore)
Well damn - thanks for the catch. I don't know what I was doing measuring DC off this thing. Grrrr... Anyone recognize the power supply section used on this board? Sure would be nice to have some test points to work with... thanks again, Dan- Blorton

Need replacement pointer for transformer in Headamp(Gilmore)
Thanks for the response! I'm pretty sure it's the donut. The problem with this amp is that the overall volume level is very low, even with the knob at max, and I have tried replacing the ALPS already. I used djgardner's test point schematic and walked all over this thing last night and...- Blorton

Need replacement pointer for transformer in Headamp(Gilmore)
Hey guys, I need to replace the "donut" transformer on this amp and am not sure where to get one, or if I should go to a different type altogether. I'd really appreciate any pointers. From browsing the dynalo information, I know I need to get something that produces +/- 15v. Thanks, Dan- Blorton

REVIEW: WESTONE 3, the ULTIMATE UNIVERSAL IEM vs everything else
Thanks for the feedback. Thankfully, dogs aren't much of a problem on a treadmill. I'm okay with the "thump" - I was asking about these because the Ety's end up backing out after awhile and these would seem to be a bit heavier. (shrug)- Blorton
