I just replaced the pads with panty hose and I was surprised by the significant improvement. Those pads didn't seem thick enough to muffle the sound that much.

starNdust speaks the truth. After reading thread after thread on these boards for hours on end, you get to the point where it depends on preference. You have to ask yourself how bright you want them, how laid back, soundstage, and etc...   I would read threads about HD 598's and/or DT880's...
