I don't have experience with Arcam, but I can tell u the MF A3 and A3.2(improved version of A3) do sound dynamic, neutral, clean, but with a natural and enjoyable midband.

Nothing beats the grado still .. for rock. The 225, 325, even the RS-1 are awesome for rock/metal. The sony like many said doesn't quite have the attack speed(not as immediate). Only thing it puts you like in a big hall where you can feel the space and 'reverb', which you might or might not like.

If you can get the older MF A3CD. I believe it's much cheaper than the A3.2 and heard that there's a tradeoff between A3 and A3.2 where A3.2 gains some it loses some of the strength of the A3 like dynamics(take this with a grain of salt).Myself I own the A3CD while I was searching for a good cdp...

I think there are many cd players that can sound very close or almost analogue like, like Electrocompaniet EMC-1, Reimyo CDP-777 and some others.. Of course they don't come cheap, but I think in the long run it will be more worthwhile to invest in these machines because they offer cd...

I think it's the overly large soundstage and at some instance the sound can be quite 'plasticky'. Coupled, it might give illusions of a 'cavern'

I have both the cd3k as well as the ety er-4s.. It's hard to compare both head to head.. What cd3k offers: impactful bass, very large soundstage and warmer mids what er-4s offers: intimacy, v slight edge in details, isolation If you can only have 1, then go for er-4s as they can be used...

Obviously if you choose the AKG 271, you are going to lose alot in terms of resolution compared to the grado sr-325. This will not be the case if you move to the SONY CD3000, which offers plenty of details and in the same bandwagon as the 325 or even rs-2. It is also very comfortable

cd3000 IMHO! Sound is between 225 and hd600 It's quite energetic has good details and large soundstage

I just came back from school and listened to the e888 out of d465 on the bus. The sony is excellent for music like new age, vocals and those acoustics. Not really good for rock, etc. I was listening to enya and the sound is so airy, vocal has a nice bloom and presence ... But for all rounder...
