For those who mix: better sub $150 closed cans than ATH-M50?

As you can see in my sig, my primary cans are my Superfi 5 Pro, which go with me everywhere. For fun listening, I have the Grado SR60s. For critical listening I'll use my Beyer DT880s. But I have a new use. I recently got heavily into Pro Tools to create my own music. I need monitoring cans...

    iPod Classic 2G (120GB) + UE Superfi5 Pro = no more hiss!

I have used a 5G iPod (60GB) for a couple of years now with my Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5 pros and the one thing that bugged me was the hiss. Not too audible during moderate playback, but for really quiet passages (i.e. classical music) or between songs, hiss city! This morning I purchased a new...

Super.fi 5 Pro replacement received--thoughts (good and bad)

I just received my replacement super.fi 5 pro from UE. My old ones had a crack in the right side. Some thoughts on the replacement: 1. The "new thicker" cable is indeed that. But here's an aesthetic complaint: it's "clearish plastic". Kind of like clear ethernet cable color. Why is this a...

Do Shure Yellow Foamies fit Ultimate Ears?

I'm asking because I just called my local Guitar Center and I the conversation went like this: Me: "Do you carry Ultimate Ears" GC: "Yes, you need the 3 or 5pro?" Me: "I have the 5pro and was looking for the foam tip replacements." GC: "I've got em, they're yellow, made by Shure." Me...

Help needed - Do any other manufacturer's foam tips fit the UE super.fi 5 pro?

Just wondering. I've found that the foam tips provide the best seal/fit for my super.fi 5 pro (none of the silicone tips do that). However, even though the foam is the best of the 5 options provided to me by Ultimate Ears, I'm thinking that the "funnel" shaped tips, like the Comply tips, would...

Is it physically impossible for IEMs to resolve past 18khz?

Just wondering. Ultimate Ears' site has their line dropping off precipitously after 16khz (even their vaunted UE10s). UM1 is rated to 16khz, UM2 to 18khz. Shure's site doesn't list the frequency response. Etymotic ER4 goes to 16khz +- 4db. I have the super.fi 5s which I'm debating returning...

Any custom eartip options for super.fi 5 Pros?

Hi All, I love the sound of my new super.fi 5 pros, but I have discovered that my left earlobe (towards the bottom but clearly external on the lobe, not in-ear pain) doesn't like the pressure exerted upon it by any of the silicon tips (I've tried S/M/L and the double) I'm trying the foam tips...

You guys suck (aka, just pulled the trigger on UE super.fi 5 pro)

The thread title is, I assure you all, out of the deepest love of my heart. But my pocketbook agrees: you guys suck! So once again, I was looking at doing a slight upgrade for my Sony EX81 IEMs. My problems were multifold (and I don't listen at loud volumes and yes, I did A/B with the same...

Question: upgrading to UE Super.fi 3/5 from Sony MDR-EX81LP advice needed...

Hi All, I'm looking to upgrade my Sony MDR-EX81LP IEMs and I've narrowed it down to Ultimate Ears because ultimately I don't want to stick IEMs so deep into my ear canal and most reviews I've read say UEs don't go in as far as Shures and Etys. That's my main concern, getting an IEM that...

Please help--Anyone else unable to wear circumaural headphones? Any advice?

Okay here's my deal: I have a pair of Grado SR60s and Sony MDR-V6s, and I could wear the 60s all day, but had problems wearing the V6s for any length of time without getting one or more of the following: Stuffy head Stuffy ear feeling Dizziness Ear fatigue This is at ANY volume...

Talk me into or out of a Beyerdynamic DT 880 purchase

Hi All, Long time listener, first time caller I’ve done a ton of reading and research here at head-fi (jeez, y’all are passionate about your cans!) the last few weeks as I am preparing to make my first “serious” headphone purchase. First of all, let me say that I’m a man of limited means...
