Bit-perfect in Linux?
@Ech0 Thanks for the recommendation. I'm looking for a cheaper bit-perfect transport so I can have more funds for a DAC. What I've found so far from the ALSA mailing lists : Quote: Q: Can anyone suggest a couple of ALSA-safe cards that will provide "bit perfect" SPDIF throughput ...- pokipoki

Bit-perfect in Linux?
Which are the soundcards that are bit-perfect in Linux? I plan to use it only with a 2-channel DAC. Please recommend any low to medium range cards, other than Chaintech AV-710. This card is impossible to find in my country (Singapore), and I'm not sure if anyone wants to ship it there as...- pokipoki

Aqualung & OSSv4 on Linux reveals more detail of instruments
With the use of LADSPA / TAP plugins in Aqualung, specifically the TAP Equalizer/BW, more details of playing instruments can be revealed. I'm impressed by the richer tunes when listening and ditching Amarok. OSSv4 is way better than ALSA, the audio is cleaner, but I'm having trouble getting...- pokipoki

Linux users!
aqualung as player (APE, FLAC, WavPack etc), it's better than foobar or amarok, especially when used with LADSPA or TAD plugins. If you have a good soundcard, Jack with real-time kernel is best. Aqualung Music Player - Screenshots- pokipoki

Audiophile Linux software
Use Jack with aqualung. Aqualung is similar, if not better than foobar, especially when used with TAP plugins. LADSPA plugins are supported too. I am totally impressed with their features, playback APE, FLAC, WavPack etc. http://aqualung.factorial.hu/home.html Aqualung Music Player -...- pokipoki

My pc wish list/what else do I need?
For most, the only reason to pay for premium memory is to overclock with high FSB/HTT. Tighter memory timings are useful for bandwidth intensive apps (encoding, some games etc) where the performance & savings in time lag are felt. It's not worth to pay premium for normal usage, the effects...- pokipoki

My pc wish list/what else do I need?
If the pc is purely for audio listening, pentium-m is the way to go. Get good coolers (link) & run passively (no fan). The only other noise is the PSU or cdrom drive. Another option for audio rigs, use low voltage (LV) Intel cpus or HE AMD cpus, typically used on blade servers. These CPUs can...- pokipoki

Help w/ New Computer Build
Get those 4 or 6 heatpipe coolers. Scythe Ninja has the best performance-to-noise ratio when coupled with 2 low noise/rpm fans (intake & exhaust). (I'm getting the Ninja for my AV workstation). AMD retail coolers are efficient but they're loud. Avoid PSUs' bundled with case. Get the best...- pokipoki

Help to choose 2 cards for source & DAC in PC
Thanks for the replies So, it's either RME HDSP 9632 or Lynx L22. I'll get whichever that's available in Singapore. Lynx 2 is above my budget (>$1000). Have to keep some funds for the dual X2, it's an AV workstation for the lab- pokipoki

Foobar2K : 3 cdrom drives with similar audio cds
Because I want to loop & listen to different CDs in an arranged sequence (using a playlist) as I sleep. I'm not trying to play all 3 CDs at the same time, I want one CD to play after another in a loop fashion. I've searched the Foobar forums but to no avail, maybe I should try another player...- pokipoki

Foobar2K : 3 cdrom drives with similar audio cds
Those CDs can't be ripped without losing quality (I've tried a few times using EAC & FLAC on different drives). I bought the CDs off those subliminal sites where they record twice (I think) to discourage ripping of tracks. Here's the site. I guessed Foobar2K didn't know how to respond when...- pokipoki

Foobar2K : 3 cdrom drives with similar audio cds
I have a unique problem playing 3 audio cds (on 3 different cdrom drives). The problem is each audio cd has the *same* number of tracks, track names & duration, but I assure you that each cd is unique. I can add the files into Foobar playlists successfully but it keeps playing the same cd...- pokipoki
