i'd recommend the 225s. they sound fabulous amplified, and fabulous out of the jack of a portable. if i had an excuse to get another headphone...man...the 225s would be way up there.

i've been using them with my ibook to listen to kcrw online when i'm doing homework. they add a little excitement to the sometimes flat sound of internet radio (as well as being easily driven by the laptop). other than that, they're just an expensive toy that look really nice. i'm superficial.

there is a subtle difference between the two. the 4p's highs are slightly attenuated compared to the 4s, thereby giving the impression of more bass. the 4s restores the highs, however it takes good amplification to get it to sound to its potential. the 4p will sound good out of everything.

The K1000 definitely has the largest soundstage of any headphone I've heard, but since they require a power amp, the K501 is the next best thing in terms of practicality (although they do require lots of power to sound their best). The HD600 doesn't have the enveloping quality of the K501, nor...
