    280 Pro good for gaming?

I've always thought the 280s were pretty responsive and quick sounding rather than laid back, with tight bass and pretty detailed highs. They sound more exciting than my DT250-250 anyway, just not as refined. The 280s have great isolation too, much more so than my DT250s. Not that I don't dig...

What music do you play for your children?

My 4 year old daughter and 18 month old son both like veggie tales, but thankfully, the wiggles freak them out. They seem to prefer their mother's music, top 40 and some hip-hop. They like simple beats. Eminem gets them dancing pretty quickly. I played Bad Brains, and they kind of ran around...

What music have you mistakenly played for children?

Watching TV w/ my 18 month old son, just flipping channels, when my daughter calls me out of the room. I came back in to discover that I'd stopped on Great American Country, and he's now dancing to some dude with a cowboy hat and obligatory mullet. "Sorry, son. Let's listen to some real music -...

    impulse buy: Senn 202

Alright, got a (small) unexpected xmas bonus today at work. I almost immediately took lunch and picked up a bottle of gin and a cheap pair of closed phones I've been dwelling on for a while. I'm just a sucker for cheap headphones, even though I usually get burned. My first impressions are that...

Sound of the Koss Porta Pro vs Senn 280 Pro

I've always thought the 280s were quick and aggressive sounding, not so much as grado SR80, but still fairly forward. The bass is some of the tightest that I've heard, but it's not prominent. I like the way bass-heavy music sounds on 280s more than DT250-250, not as boomy, but maybe it's just...

    Best cure for loud-talking co-workers?

The etys would surely isolate the best, but if you're like me, you have people coming in, or phones to answer a couple times per hour, and don't want to fool with the right fit 16 times a day! The HD 280s are pretty large, and they look "utilitarian", but who cares, they block out LOTS of sound...

I thought the drivers were different? I thought the 250-250s shared the 770-250 drivers?

    Best Sennheiser for under $150?

The best closed senn <$150 would be the HD280, or maybe the HD 25 SP (supra-aural). I used to own the former, but haven't heard the latter. The Beyerdynamic DT250-80 is also good, but they can run > $150 depending on where you buy them. I've got the Beyer DT250-250, they're just like the...

    CONFUSED: $100 range? hd280/dt231/hd497/hp890?

I've owned the HD280s, and used the eggo D66s for a month. The HD280s are very isolated - virtually no sound escapes, but they block so much that I had to put my phone in front of me so that the LEDs would cue to the fact that it was ringing. I think they sound great, but they may be a little...

    New phones for work

Sorry to jump in, but I'm also looking for office (cubicle) phones - do the portapros leak less than the KSC-35? The leakage is the only thing that's stopped me from bringing the 35s in to work, but if I can get close to that sound with a good bit less leakage...

    Recs for <$100 supra-aural 'phones?

Sony MDR-D66 eggos are circumaural, but barely, and still very small. They're closed enough that they don't leak much sound at all, but you can still easily hear phones ring, co-workers, etc. I don't think they sound as good as KSC-35s, but they don't leak, and I really dig the 35s.

    Good Looks AND Good Sound?

john_jcb - too damn funny! I third the D66s, if you're concerned about looks, but what do I know, I wore HD280s at all day at work!

anybody try the new Sony MDR-G82LP?

I had the G52s a couple of years ago, I've got the 35s now, and they easily blow away them away, especially in terms of bass response. The koss are much more open though. I think they look better than the 50s, they're smaller and more understated, little black discs on your ears, and they fit...

    580 V koss-35

I was listening to my KSC-35s last night through my cmoy. I started off casually A/B testing my SR80s against the 35s. After about 3 songs, I just left the 35s on. They just sounded less flat and tinny than the Grados. Don't get me wrong, I love the Grados, and some detail was missing in the...

Technics RP-DJ1200A Vs. Beyer Dt-250-80 for DJ use

It's not that they look bad, they just look kind of strange on your head, because the headband is straight and wide, rather than hemispherical, if that makes sense. It's the amount of space between your head and the sides of the headband that looks odd. Just look at headroom's large front image...

OK, suppose I got the Beyer 770's...

Magicthyse, have you thought about D66 eggos? I think the midbass is more prominent than in the 280s, but still may be a little lower than what you're looking for, but they're worth auditioning. They're really compact, easily driven, and they look pretty sleek.

    Killer Bass from something PORTABLE

Afroide, if you want a closed portable hp, check out the Sony D66 eggos. The bass may not be as prominent as you'd like, but they're small, detailed, and they're designed pretty well. The KSC-35s sound better at 1/4 of the price, but they're open and I personally have some tangling problems with...

OK, suppose I got the Beyer 770's...

I don't have the 770s, but wouldn't they need an amp? Also, I think they're larger and heavier than the 280s. The DT250-80s seem to be up your alley though - more bass and less treble than the 280s, powered by a portable, and from the pictures, they look better.
