Very small DC offset causes damage over time?

Hi guys, I'm wondering if a DC offset around 2mv can cause damage if headphones are continuously exposed to it for long periods of time. The reason I ask is that I'm trying to figure out why the bass response seems to slowly disappear over the course of weeks and months to every set of...

HTPC HiFi Soundcard Advice: RME or E-MU

E-MU will not pass anything other than regular 2-channel PCM over the SPDIF. They've said they've been "considering" adding AC-3 support to their drivers for over a year due to user demand, but at this point it just seems like they're saying that so people will buy the cards hoping that one...

Someone with a 1212m and a multimeter, please help!

Got it working! I just inserted 91 ohms from pin 1, then went to pin 5 of the A/D. But for some reason it's now a little quieter than the other channel, using an OPA627. Hmm. Oh well I guess.

    96/192kHz better than 88.2/176.4kHz?

It also depends on the design of the card. First, I thought that the Audigy resamples internally to 48Khz anyway. So, with a high quality SRC, it should actually sound better at 48Khz than anything else. Secondly - and this may apply to the m-audio card as well - it depends on the...

Someone with a 1212m and a multimeter, please help!

Hi folks, I recently attemped to mod the analog input opamps on my 1212m. Unfortunately, all the traces lifted on the topmost opamp I think I've got it mostly repaired. I believe my only problem is in determining where pin 1 leads. I can see from photos that it goes to C7, which I believe...

    1212m as preamplifier

I don't get it. A preamp from what source? Soundcards aren't designed to be sources of clean gain. You're supposed to feed them line level to begin with. The E-MU 1212m does have lots of controls, but the input is supposed to be LINE LEVEL and most importantly LINE IMPEDANCE. Anything else will...

Asio4all - we should all download it free !

If you're hearing large sound differences when upconverting in any case, then there's something wrong with your SRC.

Looking to upgrade the opamps on my Audigy 2 ZS

The usual method of eliminating oscillation (and that is the goal - eliminating, not reducing as you say) is to tweak the power supply rails. More often than not involves better power bypassing. Then you need to worry about the supply voltage, and if it still won't work right, look at the gain...

Fully modded E-Mu 1212M pics and impressions (so far)

Wow. I just did a little modding on my 1212m after months of thinking about it... added some .01uf polys as power decouplers on the output opamps (stock JRC) - this mod didn't seem to make any noticeable difference. But as soon as I bypassed the ouput caps... holy cow! The top end...
