Advice on cheap, but good desktop speakers

I've been using some Logitech X-140's for a long time now and they're finally starting to make buzzing noises and wear out. Looks like it's time for some new speakers, however I'm currently trying to stay frugal since money is tight.   Primary uses for speakers are music and video games. I...

Need help finding a sound card

I looked more into the U3 and I think I may be looking for something a bit better than that. It doesn't matter to me if it's USB or PCIe, as long as it's not PCI since I won't be able to use it.

Need help finding a sound card

I found multiple designs of the U3 here, not sure which one you're referring to. Also what's the performance difference between a USB sound card and a PCIe/PCI/etc. sound card?   I have an EVGA P55 Classified 200 motherboard. They don't make them anymore and I got a good deal on it when I...

Need help finding a sound card

I recently purchased the Xonar DG because when I looked up the specs of my motherboard I saw that it had a PCI slot. I knew I should have actually looked inside my case just to be sure, but I didn't, and it turns out my motherboard only has PCIe slots.   The reason I picked the Xonar DG was...

Speakers + Sound card for $100 max

Quote: Well I don't know if the AV30s are going to be better/worse than the setup trog suggested since I'm not really familiar.   Do either of you know (trog or tacoboy) which setup would be better, both in terms of sound quality and upgradability for the future?

Speakers + Sound card for $100 max

Except wouldn't these speakers be higher quality than the M-Audios anyway? Also the total in the cart (with the additional wiring) is only $61, so... it's still cheaper. Plus I'm getting it with the DG instead of the DX, so I'm not spending as much towards the sound card.

Speakers + Sound card for $100 max

Alright, so I would be plugging the speakers directly into the amp, and then the amp to the Xonar DG in my computer? Just want to make sure.   Also, for future reference about the sub, what should I be looking at that will be compatible with this setup you've recommended me? I'd probably...

Speakers + Sound card for $100 max

So you're saying to get the Xonar DG to go with the HFI-580's, along with the speaker setup in that pic?   Am I going to notice much of a difference between those B652 speakers over my current setup? Also, how necessary is the audio amplifier?   Sorry for all of the questions, I really...

Speakers + Sound card for $100 max

I looked into the 668B's and I don't think I'd be as happy with those as I would be with the HFI-580's. Maybe there's some kind of middle-ground pair of headphones between the two that is more comparable to the HFI-580 in terms of quality, but otherwise I'm pretty confident with my choice.  ...

Quote: How do the Superlux HD-668B phones compare to the Ultrasone HFI-580's? (I saw your reply in my thread on the other board but figured I'd ask here since it fits this topic better.)

Speakers + Sound card for $100 max

I've decided, thanks to the help provided in the headphones board, to grab a pair of Ultrasone HFI-580's, and learned that I would likely need a sound card that has some kind of headphone amp in order to use the 580's to their full potential. In addition, I've been looking to upgrade my speaker...

Quote: Well obviously with headphones like these I wouldn't run them through my speakers, I'm just saying that's what I normally do. That still doesn't solve the situation though...

++ FULL-SIZE HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATIONS THREAD++ CLOSED: Please post a thread in the Introductions, Help and Advice forum

Quote: My computer does have a specific input for headphones, although I normally plug them into my speakers' headphone input. Also, I'm not too interested in unwanted noises.... What would be the next best headphone I could get that wouldn't have any problems like unwanted sounds without...

++ FULL-SIZE HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATIONS THREAD++ CLOSED: Please post a thread in the Introductions, Help and Advice forum

Quote: After reading reviews for it I'm kind of cautious about buying a cheaper-end sound card to go with a rather expensive set of headphones (seeing problems with switching between speakers/headphones, sleep/freezing issues, etc.)...

++ FULL-SIZE HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATIONS THREAD++ CLOSED: Please post a thread in the Introductions, Help and Advice forum

I was looking to buy the Ultrasone HFI-580's, however I asked someone I know about them and he said I would definitely need a sound card in my PC in order to use them to their full potential. I was wondering if anybody knew how necessary it was to have a sound card for using the HFI-580...

~$100 Headphones for Metal, Dubstep, and Gaming?

Quote: I'm gonna do some more research on each one, I see there are lots of reviews here comparing the two in addition to other headphones that will gives specific pros and cons of each one. Thank you for the tip on these headphones and for suggesting that I consider this to be an...

~$100 Headphones for Metal, Dubstep, and Gaming?

Quote: Hmm.... You're right about really investing in something instead of cheaping out on it. I've been trying to spend conservative lately since I'm saving up for other things, and every dollar kinda counts. On the other hand, headphones are a priority on that list since I'll be having...

~$100 Headphones for Metal, Dubstep, and Gaming?

Quote: I saw your thread but you said you listened to more dubstep than things like rock or metal, and gaming isn't really as important to me as much as getting a good heavy sound for primarily metal and occasionally dubstep. I did see and read through the thread, and it seemed like you...

~$100 Headphones for Metal, Dubstep, and Gaming?

I've been asking in several different places for the right headphones to get but have yet to decide on one to actually spend my money on. Primary use will be for all kinds of metal music, including (but not limited to) Thrash Metal, Death Metal, Black Metal, Heavy Metal, Metalcore, Deathcore...
