More pimeta trouble
1) Yes, when I touch anywhere on the ground the hum goes away. 2) When I play music I can barely hear the humming but the music seamed to have a bit of distortion when I turned the pot high. 3) Yes, they are insulated RCA jacks. 4) I wouldn't be able to call it a loud noise but I hear a small...- Ma1vad0

It's still there without the source and it's a constant higher pitched hum.- Ma1vad0

More pimeta trouble
I do have an isolated jack so it's not that. I'll just have to take some time to go over all the solder points tomorrow and hope for the best.- Ma1vad0

More pimeta trouble
I wired IR and IL to the wrong spots... Now I have another problem though... a bad buzzing sound. I'm guessing it's a ground loop. I'm very close to giving up on this pimeta and just throwing it in the trash :P.- Ma1vad0

More pimeta trouble
Yet again I have another pimeta problem. I finally finished building my pimeta and checked all the voltages on the sockets (all looked ok) then I go to take a listen but all I hear is this loud buzzz with the music playing very faintly in the background. EDIT Oops... It was a VERY stupid...- Ma1vad0

Pimeta Problem
I built my pimeta this week and everything is in but the buffer/opamps. I go to plug it in to test the power and the LED lights up fine. The problem is when I go to unplug it I smelled a strong burning smell coming from it(something like burning plastic). None of the parts "appear" to be damaged...- Ma1vad0

Some more help with my pimeta
I have all the parts on the way for a pimeta and today I got my capacitors. The first thing I noticed when I opened the box is that these capictors don't stand upright. They lay down like a resistor. These are Vishay/BC Components Aluminum Capacitors 10 x 25 470uF 25V 20%. Now my question is...- Ma1vad0

HD650 + x. x=?
I can tell you from my own experience that buying the right sound card for your headphones is really hard. I started out with an Audigy 2 Gamer and then I got my self an M-Audio 7.1. The audigy can drive my HD580's a little better since it has some decent power output but the sound is very flat...- Ma1vad0

Went a bit over my head...
Thanks a lot everyone . Now that I know I just need to get it off the schematic it should be a lot easier. I figured it was something like that but I wasn't too sure.- Ma1vad0

Went a bit over my head...
I went and bought my self most of the parts for building a pimeta. Now I have built a bunch of little soldering projects before such as a stereo amp, headphone amp, electronics kits, ect. Although... most of these were kits or I was pretty much following directions. I then noticed I needed to...- Ma1vad0

I just got my HD580's in the mail today and wow they sound amazing even without an amp. I can't imagine what these must sound like with a nice amp.- Ma1vad0

A nice headphone amp inside my CD-RW?
I was looking around and I found I had an old CD-RW (one of the big stand alone ones) and I noticed it had a volume for just the headphones. I plugged my crappy HD270's into this thing and I think it has enough power to blow them (at 50% I it was too much for my ears to handle). The sound it...- Ma1vad0

Down to 2 headphones
Well I am probably getting an amp but not right now. The first thing on my list will be getting a new sound card and then an amp. I figured i'd pick my headphones before an amp so I know which amp to buy.- Ma1vad0

Down to 2 headphones
Well heavy bass isn't a bad thing as long as its done well. I just don't want some crazy loud bass that kills the sound. As long as it still gives crisp clear sound... a lot of bass is fine.- Ma1vad0

Down to 2 headphones
I have been looking around and it all comes down to these two options: 1. Beyerdynamic DT 990 ($159.41) (after some research I noticed there were two 990's out there. These are the newer release) 2. Sennheiser HD580 ($159.99) Now out of these two sets which one would you guys suggest? I...- Ma1vad0

Need an opinion on an amp.
I was looking around for some amps in my price range or even a guide to building a decent one. I came across the "Ramsey SHA1WT Stereo Headphone Amplifier" it comes either in a kit or assembled for a bit more. I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of this or could give me a personal opinion...- Ma1vad0

Yeah, I was searching google and found DIY a bit before you posted that. I may just go ahead and get the HD600's and build my self a decent amp. It should be a fun project. I have worked with soldering before but if I have trouble I know a friend who works on PCB for a living and he could give...- Ma1vad0

Well what I may do is buy the 'Ramsey SHA1C Stereo Headphone Amplifier Kit' which I posted in my last post and build it inside my computer case. It looks like its a lot cheap to build your own amp then it is to buy one premade.- Ma1vad0

So if I had to choose from lets say... the 580's or the 600's there wouldn't be a quality difference if I didn't have an amp? This is one of the reasons I was going towards the bose line. The QC1 had a built in amp and so does the QC2 but I didn't like the design(the fit/durability) but a lot of...- Ma1vad0

Could you suggest a card that works well with high end headphones? I could also plug it into my Pioneer reciever but i'm not sure if that gives much more power compared to the sound card when it comes to the headphone port. I know there is quite a difference between the 270's and the 600's but...- Ma1vad0

Oops forgot to meantion that i'm not looking for a portable set. I am really only going to use these for home use. Will the HD600's really have a problem running off a high-end sound card such as an SB Audigy 2 platinum? I may considering buy a new soundcard for the PC if that what I need but...- Ma1vad0
