Sometimes high impedance mode randomly triggers for me since the oreo update (t-mobile) without the use of an adapter. It makes me nervous for the longevity of the jack trying to achieve this consistently though, as I'm not sure why it happens. I have seen other people on reddit mention the same...

I have encountered pops using UAPP while still on Nougat. However, the pops are not random. They occur at whatever interval i set the network buffer size to in the settings. I stream PCM audio via DLNA over my network and UAPP fetches enough data for whatever buffer size you set up to 25...

Working as expected for me. I wish I could just browse UPNP devices instead of having to scan them into the media library, but I can live with it. Might help if you explain some of the strange behavior you are experiencing. Thankfully the ~5 minutes it took to remove apps I didn't want had no...

If you are familiar with using adb you can execute the command 'adb shell dumpsys media.audio_flinger' and view the resulting debug data to determine the audio device and samplerate of your output. There is more information in past pages of this thread and my post history where I detail more...

If you're happy, I'm happy. My point about bit perfect playback still stands, whether you can hear it or not is irrelevant.

Don't feel weird, still above average audio even with a lossy source. But if you want to take full advantage of high-res audio playback unfortunately you need to find an app that supports it or suffer the android resampling. This is not something unique to this phone, this is an android issue...

I'm not endorsing any player over another either and agree with this post. These artifacts are being introduced by the android mixer, and any app not bypassing it and outputting via the DAC in direct mode are subject to them. Maybe people don't notice it, maybe they even prefer it. But we know...

Really appreciate these tests, will definitely be checking this app out now. My apologies to @jtfrazier and anyone else I offended with my skepticism in requesting the debug data. But this information is good to know.

Could you please include an adb debug verifying this? I have tested other apps and posted my results, no one has posted a neutron debug yet that I know of. I would like to see verification of direct output. I have the adb data to back up all my statements.

Further testing and I can say that all 16 bit media is played through the android mixer and resampled to 48khz regardless of sample rate or app used for playback. 24 bit playback operates in direct mode for those apps that take advantage (LG Music Player, BubbleUPNP) Tried 16/88 and 16/96, both...

Just confirmed this behavior myself. 16/44 in LG Music Player Even stranger, here is 24/44 in LG Music App 16/44 in BubbleUPNP reports the same android mixer output Very odd, but I am not going to lose any sleep over 44->48khz resampling either, more concerned with high-res files not...

Good to know, thanks. I still think it's notable as the most fully featured app I can find that actually utilizes the Quad DAC at native samplerate and bitdepth though. The app isn't really designed for use with an external DAC so I wouldn't expect it to handle that use case anyway. Edit: 16/44...

Good news! BubbleUPNP plays back using the DAC directly with no resampling or reduced bitdepth! And unlike the LG Music Player, this one doesn't lump all tracks together when browsing network shares. I am beyond pleased. This app also supports Tidal playback, which may interest some of you. I...

I tried blackplayer as far as downloading and opening the app, but it does not support network playback so I promptly uninstalled it (all my music is in FLAC on my NAS, terabytes of it, local-only playback is a complete dealbreaker for me). Can that be done without root? All carrier models...

This can be confusing. The problem is that the adb output lists all available audio outputs, and you need to find the active one. So one thing to look for is the line "standby: no", and this is an active audio output. From there you can see samplerate and bitdepth. So in the output you posted...
