    iPod Touch 7th Generation (2019)

about the same, it's more or less the same Cirrus Logic DAC

Lossless Streaming Service you use (Poll)

I see. Ok, in this case it would be indeed pretty cumbersome… I was tired of waiting for Spotify lossless and now switched to Apple that is good enough for us. Atmos is a nice bonus (ok, my previously used Amazon Music also offers Atmos now)

Lossless Streaming Service you use (Poll)

You can use an apple tv 4k in your wired setup. Use an HDMI audio extractor to get digital audio, so that you won‘t need to run it with a tv all the time or even connect it to tv, use a remote app on an iPad to control, and you‘ll get up to 48/24 lossless, if it‘s important for you. It‘s still a...

Lossless Streaming Service you use (Poll)

That only works for BT, not for WiFi. But it‘s really not a deal breaker for us, since only kids are using the Echos for music, it‘s easier for them this way, and they don’t care about SQ. Well, new generation… I rarely use Alexa for music, prefer to cast to our network speakers anyway, and as...

Lossless Streaming Service you use (Poll)

No problem at all, well, probably that might be related to language settings indeed. But our Alexa speaks German, which means bad luck with Tidal, at least at the moment. Apple works for us as well as Amazon itself with Alexa. Fortunately kids only talk to Alexa when they want their music...

Lossless Streaming Service you use (Poll)

Of course. Here is a snapshot of the search, if you don‘t believe me. As you see, searching for tidal does not retrieve anything useful. As I said, it‘s not available in Germany…

Lossless Streaming Service you use (Poll)

Maybe in the US it does. Unfortunately not in Germany. There is neither a Tidal skill, nor is it possible to select Tidal as a music service in Alexa settings. Apple, Spotify and Deezer are the only available services. Here is a snapshot of what you can choose from.

Nope, thanks for the link! An interesting and inexpensive toy. Staying with my dragonflies though. Don‘t need to remember to charge one more device, plus no battery to loose capacity after a few years… That was exactly the same reasoning why I didn‘t get the mojo.

Lossless Streaming Service you use (Poll)

I see. I guess it all depends on where you are standing in life :) In my youth, I used to spend lots of my free time at a computer screen. Not anymore. Spending my working hours in front of a computer is enough, apart from that it’s only used for a tax report or if I need to hack another gadget...

Lossless Streaming Service you use (Poll)

Indeed. I guess, in our household, the real big limitation is a need for compatibilty with Alexa, as it is what the kids are using. Neither Tidal nor Qobuz are supporting Alexa, so it‘s a k.o. for them…

Lossless Streaming Service you use (Poll)

I guess the preference for the streaming service heavily depends on the platform you are using. Even though we have multiple PCs and Macs in our household, I would never listen to music on them (any more), even if I'm working a whole day using one of them. Instead, a dedicated older iPhone with...

    iPod Touch 7th Generation (2019)

Well, that was not an answer to your question, but just a comment in a public thread not related to your post at all:) I didn't quote your question, didn't I?

    iPod Touch 7th Generation (2019)

Ipod Touch 7 is ridiculously overpriced for what it is, especially with larger storage. It's a better idea to get a used iphone 6s/7, has the same HW, larger screen, 2x the battery, not much heavier than an ipod. Larger battery is important.

Switched to Apple Music last month after 3 years with Amazon Music, prior to that few years with Spotify, also tried Qobuz and Tidal. Amazon just can't figure this out, even after 2 years since Music HD introduction the iOS app is buggy, require re-downloads of albums from time to time in order...

So what’s the deal with Amazon Music HD and bit-perfect playback on most DAPs (Android OS)?

I can only re-iterate what I've said about iOS. iOS does not have SRC or any other kinds of forced bit rate conversions. And Amazon Music (pre-HD) was always playing at 44.1/16. After Introduction of Amazon Music HD and their new breed of Apps for that on iOS, Amazon player started to upsample...

So what’s the deal with Amazon Music HD and bit-perfect playback on most DAPs (Android OS)?

A comment from an iOS user: Amazon's not providing bit-perfect playback is a feature, not a bug, and is the same on all OS systems, also on iOS. By default, iOS does not use any SRC, and also amazon music app was playing in 44.1/16 at a time there was only lossy music service available. By the...

    Dragonfly COBALT vs.............Discussions

Depends on what you need to drive with it. DFR is pretty noisy with low-impedance high-sensitivity IEMs. Cobalt is silent. Both have the same front-end, so output power would be the same. If you don't use sensitive IEMs, you could be happy with DFR. I have both, use DFR as a DAC (with Fiio A5 as...

    Dragonfly COBALT vs.............Discussions

Since this is a vs. thread, here an a bit unfair comparison. I actually usually don‘t compare, but just had some time today and wanted to check yet again, if I can get rid of DFC and use something more convenient. So, I decided to compare DFC against my Fiio BTR3 (AKM DAC) that I sometimes use...

    Dragonfly COBALT vs.............Discussions

Well, S8 doesn't make SE846 sound bad, but S8 is just better overall. Mainly in treble and imaging (S8 seems to be very compatible with my HRTF, it's a best imaging / holographic sound I'm getting with any HP/IEM I have used in the last 20 years). I always had an issue with SE846's tips. None of...

    Dragonfly COBALT vs.............Discussions

That's true. Tonality is nice and important, but where it shines is really with ambience and holographical instrument placement with acoustic music. Of course only with capable HPs/IEMs. Stunning with my Moondrop S8. My beloved SE846 used almost exclusively over past couple of years doesn't...

    Dragonfly COBALT vs.............Discussions

Not me. I‘m actually using it, because I find other sources cold and clinical. DFC - not at all. Detailed? Yes. Cold? No. It doesn‘t have lots of power to drive many big cans though. With my HD600 it indeed sounds a bit lean and boring. But that‘s because it just does not provide enough juice...

    Dragonfly COBALT vs.............Discussions

One important thing they don‘t measure is e.g. phase shift. If there is some frequency-dependent phase shift, it will affect how you can pinpoint instruments in space, with lots of phase shift everything will be smeared… Apart from that: the only „bad“ thing in their measurements was THD. But...

    Dragonfly COBALT vs.............Discussions

I went with a DFC because I knew it was a safe bet, I like the sound signature of DFR (and am still using it with my second non-IEM setup) and I knew from reports that DFC has much lower noise floor. It was more important to me than playing a hit or miss game with another stuff, as time is money...

    Dragonfly COBALT vs.............Discussions

Well, Fiio btr3/5 are pretty silent as well, but I prefer the sound signature of DFC with my SE846. Apart from that - there are plenty of inexpensive chinese portable dacs nowadays, some of them might be silent as well, difficult to tell…
