Any ex-Musette owner has the Menuet in hands? Comparisons? How better the latter sounds, compared to Musette or the Hex?- spytsi

Audio-GD Reference 7 - the new flagship DAC
Quote: Hi Paul. What measured greatly in my decision going for the (PCM1704-based) Reference 7 is conveyed by LessLoss, in their web page explaining why they chose the PCM1704 chip for their DAC 2004 MkII. The reason I trusted Audio-gd's top PCM1704 implementation is easily...- spytsi

Audio-GD Reference 7 - the new flagship DAC
borrego, this has actually crossed my mind. Not only NFB7/8, but maybe also Ref. 7.1 (at least the last units ever built) were assembled without LED. The degree to which this could result in sound quality benefits is uncertain; theoretically it could, though I believe only marginal that I doubt...- spytsi

Audio-GD Reference 7 - the new flagship DAC
IPodPJ, I too believe that this whole thing has to do with some kind of inconsistency. Just like you, I wouldn't ship the unit back for that LED only; from what I can tell the DAC works fine, so this practically is just a cosmetic issue. Even so, I'm curious about what's behind that hole...- spytsi

Audio-GD Reference 7 - the new flagship DAC
Quote: I ordered and paid for mine through a third party; still I have no reason to believe I was sold a Ref. 7 instead of 7.1. My order was custom (single RCA; a second BNC instead of the AES/EBU) and the unit I received was indeed assembled that way. It took nearly 3.5 months before AGD...- spytsi

Audio-GD Reference 7 - the new flagship DAC
Quote: Quote: I have the Ref. 7.1 unit. In the picture I attached you can see the little hole I am talking about (arrowed). I did try to insert a pin and it went in almost completely (more than 2 cm). So I might guess this is a Ref. 7.1 unit, in a Ref. 7 (LED hole)...- spytsi

Audio-GD Reference 7 - the new flagship DAC
Quote: Quote: Thanks for your prompt input, gentlemen. Since it is supposed to be a LED in that drill, I guess mine might have dropped — or maybe not installed in the first place? I don't know... Currawong, do you think that if I attempt squeezing a small LED (probably 3 mm...- spytsi

Audio-GD Reference 7 - the new flagship DAC
After some considerable waiting, my unit finally arrived yesterday. Guess it's too early to come to conclusions as regards its sound characteristics. Run-in has just began, while, on the other hand, I have no previous own DAC reference to compare it directly with. Maybe I'll take it to a...- spytsi

Audio-GD Reference 7 - the new flagship DAC
Quote: Obviously if the signal is of identical quality on both output wiring, any audible differences will be attributable to differences between sockets and/or interconnects. Thanks for this clarification.- spytsi

Audio-GD Reference 7 - the new flagship DAC
Quote: Which means that, when I receive my unit, it'll be perfectly functional to send the (balanced) signal from the DAC's XLR outputs to my PrimaLuna's (unbalanced) RCA inputs (through an XLR-to-RCA interconnect) plus send the (unbalanced) signal from the DAC's RCAs to my Pioneer AVR...- spytsi
