STX line out (speakers) impedance?
Hi, I'm wanting to use a completely passive preamplifier (just a stepped attenuator), but to do so I'd need a low enough line out impedance from the Asus Xonar Essence STX line out. Does anyone know the impedance of the STX line out? Thank you very much if anyone can tell me this...- mattpwill

Line out from EMU0404 far too quiet
I want to use the line out of the EMU0404 to connect it to my hifi, but the master volume and wave volume sliders in Windows XP are grayed out. Compared to any other source I've tried, including my motherboard integrated audio, it's really quiet. Is there a way to overcome this to get the full...- mattpwill

Get rid of the plasticky sound of the EMU0404
Use Winamp, with the Shibatch MP3 decoder set to 32 bit, and Shibatch ASIO. Et voila, sound that matches the RMAA graphs of the card (which are very very good, and harsh if anything - the opposite to the Foobar+EMU sound).- mattpwill

Could headphones ever match the quality of speakers?
Today, all headphones of all types have uneven frequency response graphs at the upper frequencies. Will they ever be able to achieve a fairly flat response from 20-20000Hz like speakers with a sub can do?- mattpwill

Best value and sound quality 256MB MP3 flash player?
I'm after a new MP3 flash player after I bought a cheap one and it sucked. I'm going to use it every day for about 2 hours each day. I would prefer to be able to use one AAA battery, unless the rechargeable replacement is cheap is widely available in 5 years I'd like the best sound...- mattpwill

SURVEY: Possible fix for Half-Life 2 stuttering (PSU related)
This is kind of an extension from another thread I hijacked I think that having a passive PFC power supply causes problems in Half-Life 2, and probably other games too. If you play Half-Life 2, please could you answer the following questions to add to my survey? 1) (Roughly) What model...- mattpwill

Adjust the headphones until they reach the sweet spot on your ears. I just did this with my fairly new HD595s, and they sound much better, amazing!- mattpwill

Spatializer for WinDVD
Has anyone tried Spatializer? It works better than any other algorithm I've heard for recreating a 5.1 effect. It adds a little reverb but it's not too bad. EDIT ---- After listening to it more, and listening to the ending of Fight Club, then Pixies' song has overblown bass and sounds...- mattpwill

Need running/sports headphones
I'm after some headphones or earphones to be used when running mostly. My EX70s broke (in the left ear), and I'm going to hopefully buy some better replacements. I'm not too fussed about sound quality even though that would be great, but mostly about weight, how well they stay on your head...- mattpwill

Do I need an amp?
I've got an EMU0404 connected to HD595s, and it sounds great, and fortunately the normal volume before clipping is perfect volume to my ears. Would I really gain sound quality as well as volume (which I don't need)? I'm a student on a low budget too, so would the money spent be worth it...- mattpwill
