Subwoofer for bookshelf setup?
Thanks, @PurpleAngel! Sorry. I'm going to ask one more query. Someone was selling this second hand (a German brand called Magnat - this is the model). These are the connects at the back for speakers. Will these work with the Swans? I'm not sure what connects these are, but it... -
Subwoofer for bookshelf setup?
Thank you, @PurpleAngel! Since posting, I did manage to find a retailer in India that sells subwoofers with RCA outs. This is one model that seems fine: http://www.hifimart.com/sonodyne-s6-powered-subwoofer.html. This should work? Input will come from the Lyrs, and outputs will be to the Swans. -
Subwoofer for bookshelf setup?
Hello (from Mumbai, India), folks! I have a computer -> HRT MusicStreamer II+ -> Schiit Lyr 2 -> Hifiman HE500 setup which I absolutely love. The Schiit allows RCA connections to speakers, so I've connected it to my delicious Swans M200 Mk3. They sound terrific. I am, however...- chuckgopal

NEW Schiit Lyr 2: Impressions
Many thanks for that link. I did a lot of reading in there and, importantly, saw what was available in Australia (where my friend is coming from - by now I guess you've realised India doesn't have much for headphone lovers). I settled on the Genalex Gold Lion 6922 E88CC. It worked out to...- chuckgopal

A Bundle of Extreme Musical Happiness -- A Review of the Swans M200 MKIII
I have and love the MIII. They're a great speaker option in India, a country where, otherwise, stuff isn't too easy to come by in terms of high-end audio. They're available on ProAudioHome. I've taken an output from my HRT MusicStreamer II+ (with another out going to an Asgard headphone amp)... -
NEW Schiit Lyr 2: Impressions
Thank you! Any recommendations on tubes I can start with (there's still some time for my friend to come down from Aus)? Or should I just stick with the stock tubes for a while? I don't mind spending upto $100 more for now. Tried looking at some Lyr 2 recommendations on the forums but many of...- chuckgopal

[Recommendations] Want to upgrade my Hifiman HE500 setup
Actually, it's not the shipping itself that I'm worried about - it's the import duties and custom fees which can be extremely high (30-50% depending on the whims and fancies of the customs officials), not to mention getting stuck in the customs office. Too much hassle, and in any case, I was...- chuckgopal

NEW Schiit Lyr 2: Impressions
After weeks of deliberation, finally decided to get a Lyr 2 for my HE500s, as an upgrade from the Asgard (1). Cannot wait to try them. I would have loved to try the Gustard H10 (it came so highly recommended) - but getting it was an issue (I stay in India) and getting it from the US would...- chuckgopal

[Recommendations] Want to upgrade my Hifiman HE500 setup
Thanks mate! I did have constraints - I stay in India and not too much of this gear is available, and if I ship it from the US direct, customs will cost a bomb. A friend is coming from Australia, and after hovering over the buy button for days, I finally clicked it - and a shiny new Lyr 2...- chuckgopal

Amp recommendations for HiFiMAN HE-500
Thank you! After reading pretty much every thread on the HE500 and amps, I've narrowed down on either: -> Gustard H10 (initially I thought Violectric V90, since the V200 was too expensive. But on further reading in the H10 thread, it seems that is basically the V200 at a...- chuckgopal

Amp recommendations for HiFiMAN HE-500
Hullo! Posted this query on a new thread, but got no replies there - so just trying my luck here :) I stay in Mumbai, and I have a pair of Hifiman HE500s, through an HRT MusicStreamer II+ and Schiit Asgard (1). I love the setup but am looking to upgrade the electronics. What I'd like most are...- chuckgopal

[Recommendations] Want to upgrade my Hifiman HE500 setup
Hello! I currently have a second-hand (ear?) Hifiman HE500, a Schiit Asgard (1, not 2) and HRT MusicStreamer II+, which are connected to a desktop computer. The HifiMan has Brainwavz angled pads on them - much more comfortable than either stock pads. I love this setup, but I feel the time has...- chuckgopal

Inexpensive Hifiman Cable
Thank you so much! Bought a pair of second-hand HE500s, and the cable conked. And I stay far away in India, where all this audio-equipment isn't exactly easy to access. Followed your guide to the T, and managed to fix it. Opeth is blaring out from them babies again, and I have you to thank... -
Need help deciding whether to buy a headphone amp | Grado SR325
Quote: Thank you! I do use lossless audio files, which run off an Asus Essence ST, which has a built-in headphone amplifier. Would I benefit from buying an external DAC considering the output will be coming from the Asus? I stay in India and access to audio equipment is limited...- chuckgopal

Need help deciding whether to buy a headphone amp | Grado SR325
Quote: Basically, the amp which you see in the image on the first post of this thread was not a 'headphone amplifier' per se. It was part of a Sony HiFi system (tuner + amp + CD player + cassette player with speakers). I borrowed just the amplifier part to see whether it would do...- chuckgopal

Need help deciding whether to buy a headphone amp | Grado SR325
Quote: Hello! Quite honestly, doesn't make too much of a difference. Not to me, anyway (Asus -> PA2V2 -> Grado, that is). Was wondering if a 'true headphone amp' (The Sony, after all, was not a true headphone amp, it was part of a stereo system) would make too much...- chuckgopal

Need help deciding whether to buy a headphone amp | Grado SR325
Thanks for your help, guys. Will stick to the Asus output for now. Honestly, the PA2V2 does nothing for me :-) Have tried the Asus -> PA2V2 -> Grado combination. Zilch. Maybe it's my ears, but hey. Perhaps later, when I get onto bigger, badder headphones, I'll get an amp. ...- chuckgopal

Need help deciding whether to buy a headphone amp | Grado SR325
Thanks so much for the reply, Joseph. What you say makes a lot of sense. To me, the decision to upgrade to the G-Cush was purely on the basis of comfort. Say what you will, wearing the L-Cushes are like sleeping on a carrot grater. The G-Cushes push the headphones away from the ear a...- chuckgopal

Need help deciding whether to buy a headphone amp | Grado SR325
Hello! I'm a bit of a newbie to high-end audio, so please forgive me if my question might be a little basic. I own (and love!) a Grado SR325i. I listen to rock, prog and metal (FLAC) through my desktop computer which has an Asus Xonar Essense ST. It has a built-in headphone amp, and I...- chuckgopal

Snipping the cable off a Grado SR325 - Advisable?
Hello everyone, Thank you so much for the replies. Looks like the best thing to do would be to get a local stereo cable made (sadly bedridden right now post an accident so will have to rely on cheap adaptors I can order off eBay India for now), and later get a proper Grado cable when...- chuckgopal

Snipping the cable off a Grado SR325 - Advisable?
Hi! Thanks for the reply. No, the Grados were not busted, the cable which was made was faulty because the male pin was mono. Guess I could just have a proper cable made, I don't see the point shelling out money for Grado's own cable. Slightly reluctant now to snip up the Grado...- chuckgopal
