Just listened to some Fostex T50RPs today... WOW!
Well my new T50RP's arrived today broken! I really can't blame UPS because B&H didn't put any packing inside the outer box. They broke at the cup coupling to the adjuster. I can't super glue it or repair it due to the way it broke. It's really a very flimsy design, but $73 only gets you so...- audiopoor

FiiO E9 Review
Try plugging the switching power supply in the other way around. I notice the prongs are not polarized. See if the tingling is reduced or disappears. Back in the '70s it was common to be able to feel tingling on the front panels of receivers and other components. Reversing the plug...- audiopoor

FiiO E9 Review
The E9 itself has no vibration prone components inside. The switching power supply has inductors that are likely not potted and so the windings might vibrate on their cores. This is undesirable but most do it to some degree and it's not usually a problem in most applications. If that's what...- audiopoor

FiiO E9 Review
Film capacitors even metalized types have almost immeasurably low ESR at audio frequencies and are never subject to self heating in audio applications. High ripple current applications such as those in some switching power supply filters are another matter and film (typically polypropylene)...- audiopoor

Headphones you regretted buying the most
Sennheiser 580. I bought them when they were new and 2nd or 3rd from their top of the line. Sennheisers were not discounted then so they were not cheap. But their build quality sure was (is). They are plasticky plain and simple. The sound was nothing special for the price. A few months...- audiopoor

Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners
I'm late to this party but it all trips me out, especially the photos because I remember when these components were brand new, sitting on dealers shelves. I caught the bug in '73 when in the 8th grade while I was attending school in NH. I went into the Art House and found a Stereo Review. I...- audiopoor

FiiO E9 Review
Quote: Yeah I've been thinking about it more and more and I think my prescriptions might also have been at least partly to blame for my initial perceptions. Some of them are pretty heavy if you know what I mean. And I ain't no spring chicken case you didn't already know (Jewel). I'm...- audiopoor

FiiO E9 Review
Well you were all correct. My E9 is sounding mighty sweet and clean right about about now. I admit to being a little embarrassed and bewildered by my initial response to my new E9. How could there be such a difference? I cannot believe that any such device using current (modern) generation...- audiopoor

FiiO E9 Review
I'm pretty sure that all three of those BB OPA2134's are in the signal path so upgrading all of them should be fine. The thing is that the only dual op amp that is better on paper without tradeoffs here and there is the National 4562. In circuit the differences would be slight if audible at...- audiopoor
