Recommendations: something like Ety HF5 but bassier?
Well that's my default position: more of the same. With the exception of my own clumsiness and the straight plug (seriously, why bother with a straight plug for an audiophile product?), they've been pretty much buy and forget. The soft grey silicone Shure olives work best for me (triple flanges...- nickd75

Recommendations: something like Ety HF5 but bassier?
Thanks, I'll check out the X5, see if there's anywhere that still has them in stock. And the T15s look intriguing; never heard of ACS before - what's the consensus on reliability, build quality etc? I realised after posting that I probably could have done with a bit better explanation of...- nickd75

Recommendations: something like Ety HF5 but bassier?
Hey guys, been a while since I've posted here... I've been through a handful of IEMS: Shure E3c, E4/ SCL4 (x3), and now Etymotic hf5s. I was a pretty big fan of the Shures, but all the E4/ SCL4s broke; by the third pair I got fed up and switched to the Etys 18 months ago. The sound is...- nickd75

Replacement IEM
erm.... Over here I can't do that, as we don't have Walmart. Plus I'm probably looking more at the Ety ER6/ Klipsch S4 level rather than JVC. I had some Sony EX70s back in the day, and going back to them temporarily last year while my previous Shures were bust showed me that I'm not going back...- nickd75

Agh - too much choice on intractable decision!
Second post in as many days, partly because with my Shure's having given up the ghost I need to get some new IEMs pronto. The issue I have is that after going through 3 pairs of E4s in 3 years (the last 2 were warranty replacements), I'm wanting something from a different brand that perhaps...- nickd75

Replacement IEM
OK, so there are lots of threads with similar titles, but none of them quite cover my issue... For the third time in 3 years, my Shure E4s have failed - they're the second warranty replacement Shure have sent me since 2007. It doesn't seem like the cable's loose, but then you never can...- nickd75

Cheapest deal on D2? (UK)
Just about to take the plunge and shell out $$$ (well, £££) on a Cowon D2 and 16GB SDHC card. The cheapest I've been able to find around is £190 for the DAB D2, or £165 for an FM D2 from some dodgy online retailer. Anyone else know of cheaper? And apart from ebay (sourced from Hong Kong)...- nickd75

whats the best hi capacity flash player avaliable?
big ipod as in big ipod nano? I guess it has a lot in common but achieves it different ways. Thing is, iAudio aren't the fastest to get larger capacity flash players to market - look at the D2, languishing at 8GB...- nickd75

Cowon D2 or Sansa View (or Zen)?
Thanks for the D2 recommendations everyone! I've kind of had my heart set on it for a while - I saw an Israeli guy with one in India and wanted a 16GB one ever since... It is a jump up in cost, especially once you include a 16GB SD card, but it also seems like the least compromised player, with...- nickd75

whats the best hi capacity flash player avaliable?
Yep, also been debating this for some time. At 16GB you have a fair few options, but if you want video that narrows things down somewhat. I'd suggest (from my own research) that your options are - Sansa View (16GB, expandable with microSD cards, video not great, mixed reviews for the SQ...- nickd75

Cowon D2 or Sansa View (or Zen)?
It's been about 2 years since I last posted here. Ah, the old days... Anyway, long story short, my Sony HD5H is dying and I want my next player to be flash, with good battery life and sound quality. In terms of space, I need at least 20GB, but realistically, probably more like 24GB. I've...- nickd75

New Rio Karma's For £105 - link posted!
Surely if you're buying new from a retailer, you have a 12 month warranty anyway? In the UK, anyway... Have to say that, having owned one, I wouldn't buy another Karma. Yes, the SQ was great, and yes, the dock with lineout is very cool. But the UI was... 'meh', and the build quality was...- nickd75

A2 vs. HD5
Tricky, that. Not many people have an HD5; fewer have an A2, even fewer have had both! However, from personal experience I can say that the HD5 series is good on sound quality. I use E3c earbuds, and I'm impressed, particularly compared to the HD3 (which had a low-level hum). One drawback is...- nickd75

If you were stuck on a deserted island...
Sony HD5H Shure E3c Death to the Pixies (limited edition with live set on CD2 - not cheating cause it all comes in one CD case!). Or possibly the Pixies live at Brixton Academy - the disclive CD of one of the gigs I went to. Better set list, but the sound is pretty awful in places.- nickd75

Looking for the coolest 4g Ipod case available
Tell you what'd be a REALLY cool case. A case that makes it look like anything BUT an ipod!! </cynicism> There are a couple of wooden jobbies knocking about, I think, although I don't know how the touchpad works. Certainly look OK. Plus there was something floating round here a while ago...- nickd75

How often do you pull out your headphones?
Nah. I mean, they should come out fairly easily, and as long as there's not too much slamming around when putting them in, it should be fine. I'd be much more worried about damaging the lead on the headphones, actually. I have Shure E3cs and *always* take them off my walkman and put them in...- nickd75

WSJ article on suffering audio quality
It's interesting to actually see a major newspaper picking up on it. Previously I've seen a lot of antipodeans with just MP3 files, and a 'you want the CD? What for?' attitude. Partly I think it's the travel part (although they've settled here, a lot of stuff, including CDs, is left at home)...- nickd75

Gapless fans !
Sorry to pull this in a tangential direction, but I loaded up SS3.4 over the weekend. It then forgot that every soundtrack album I own (lots, btw) was a compilation, and hence listed every single track from such an album as a separate album. Plssed? I nearly drop-kicked my PC out the window...- nickd75
