You received your HA-680s and discarded them as soon as they arrived?

Anyone here try these unamped out of a Clip+? If so, how did they sound?

Haha, just buy 'em *****ers already! The most you'd have to pay on a cheap item such as this is like $10-$15.

According to everyone in here who's compared the two: these have more bass.   Get 'em, homie.

These 'phones are getting quite a bit of exposure on Reddit.

Dude, these are cheap 'phones. If poor mother*****ers like me are able to scrounge up enough money for them, I'm sure you can too. Get the JVC HA-S680 and if you, for whatever reason, don't like 'em it won't be the end of the world. You can always sell 'em, gift 'em, use 'em for target...

You should ask your grandfather what he thinks of the HA-S680 and tell him to post his thoughts here.   What's your grandfather's hearing like? I hope that if I ever live to be that long I'll still be able to enjoy headphones.

This.   It's the only way he'll know whether or not he'll like it. By now a ton of people have shared their thoughts on these 'phones; now it's time for him to buy them to see what he thinks.

Quote:   The 680 most definitely will work with your gear. They're extremely efficient 'phones meant for portable use. They'll work fine out of anything.

Haha, you're still asking this!   The CAL! When it comes to sound, the 680 beats them in just one area: soundstage. So far everyone in this thread, including myself, who's heard both 'phones prefers the CAL! And I'm sure many of the people in this thread who find the 680 amazing would be...

I'd say it's mostly a result of the angled drivers. Blocking the ports doesn't seem to have much, if any, effect on the soundstage.

You're not alone: Takonin also prefers the sound quality of the S400 to the S680.

Not exactly. But I do know that BenF likes them way more than the 500s. But BenF thinks these 'phones are the second coming of Jesus Christ and I wouldn't be too surprised if he'd tell you that they're better than the Stax SR-009, Sennheiser Orpheus, LCD-3, etc.

I'm surprised to see you call the Momentum "mediocre" when many consider it to be one of the very best portable cans. I must say that one thing that draws me to that can is its amazing aesthetics. Sennheiser cans usually look ugly as hell; the Momentums are a big exception.   Those Paradigm...

Import fees seem to be quite unpredictable. Just take a chance. I doubt import fees would be much anyway considering how cheap these 'phones are.

It's a great cable. Do JVC 'phones typically have such thick, high-quality cables?

Here's a question I've been meaning to ask the HA-S500 / HA-S400 owners here: how does the HA-S680's cable compare to that of those two other 'phones?   I'm simply curious.

Haha. I don't have many clams to blow, so even though they're just $30, I definitely won't be buying a pair just to see how they compare.   To be honest, I currently have my focus on speakers rather than 'phones anyway. I don't plan on buying new 'phones / 'phone gear for some time.

Just one person's opinion, though. Even the most respected reviewers sometimes hate 'phones that the vast majority of the population likes. For example, Tyll Hertsens wasn't at all impressed by the original Mad Dog, a 'phone that pretty much all audiophiles are in love with.   Perhaps Dsnuts...

Why do you say that, Ben? I can't find any opinions on these 'phones apart from two Amazon reviews. One review on there is somewhat positive; the other, a poorly-written review, is negative.   I'm honestly a bit curious to see what they sound like. Both their looks and specs are similar to...

I haven't heard the CAL! 2, but pretty much everyone agrees that it sounds more refined than the first CAL! But I think the biggest improvements are made in the build quality department—not the sound quality department. Judging from what I've read, the CAL! 2 likely would make better "beater"...
