E1DA DACs Discussion Thread (PDV2, 9038S, 9038D, 9038X, HiFiToy, HPToy)
On PD V2, there was talk of a hiss with very high sensitivity IEM. Mine are 119 dB (36 Ohms), and I do have problem on older DAC with headphone output. Does anyone know if this was solved on the PD V2.1? Or is the hiss with high sensitivity IEM still there?- Sergedc

Balanced cable on an IEM - snake oil?
The snake oil is thinking that Balanced in itself is better. HOWEVER: if the performance of balanced output of your headphone amp is better (more power or lower noise) than the single ended output of that same amp, then yes you will benefit from going to Balanced. In the case of IEM you would...- Sergedc

Connecting on Line level output
I thought I would give an update: I bought a RCA male to 3.5mm female, and the result is the following: - In pure dac mode (pre amp off): the sound is very distorted, not usable - With the pre amp on: - the trick is to leave the preamp to minimum level and foobar volume to max. This give...- Sergedc

Comment by 'Sergedc' in item 'Shure Aonic 5'
Triple flange: why torture? I guess they go in too deep in your hear? Have a look under the 3rd flange (the bugger one), you will see a plastic dot protruding. Cut off everything that is after this dot. Easy way to do that: squeeze it into a large nail cutter and cut it all off in one go...- Sergedc

$500 iem vs $500 headphones?
I see this argument a lot. Why would you buy SE535 to connect to a phone or laptop.... When it comes to IEM / Headphone I see so much talk about headphone amplifier and so little about DAC. And people say, "its great, with IEM you need nothing else". In my opinion, in a iem / headphone setup...- Sergedc

Connecting on Line level output
After reading I wonder if there might be an impedance problem. For these IEM seems like the recommended output impedance is less than 1 ohm. The RCA output is probably a lot more than that, no? (I found out the XLR output is 50 ohm)- Sergedc

Connecting on Line level output
Hi, I have a Yulong DA8 II DAC and a pair of Shure Aonic 5 (36 ohm and 119 dB SPL/MW @1kHz sensitivity) The headphone amp is way way too loud, and produce too much noise. What would happen if I connect the IEM on the RCA out (at the back) instead (I know I need an adaptor)? Not enough power...- Sergedc

Radio interferences in headphone amp
I have a pair of Shure Aonic 5 (34 ohm, 119 db sensitivity) and I am trying to have a noise free experience. I have a Yulong DA8 II DAC, and using the headphone amp of the Yulong, I am getting a lot of noise / wind. This was mentioned in someone else's review (for sensitive IEM). Hence someone...- Sergedc

HRT HeadStreamer Firmware
Here it is, actually it was on their website with broken link Be carefull, mine was not a "Headstreamer" but a "headstreamer mobile", different file. The tool will warn you if you are using a bin that is not for your device. But give you are at 1.5, you have a "Headstreamer"- Sergedc

HRT HeadStreamer Firmware
Someone must have these files, maybe an ex-employee ( I have reached out to 2 of them on linked in, lets see) Or a user that saved them... I find it frustrating that when these companies go bust they don't put the files in a public place.- Sergedc

Yulong DA8II In-Depth Review
@earphonia: awesome review. I have owned the DA8II for 7 years and very happy with it. For the first 6 years I used it with RCA output. Only recently I started using it as a headphone amp, but facing a problem. When I turn it on, there is some white noise (like wind) coming in the IEM (Shure...- Sergedc

Xiang Sheng 768A headphone/pre amplifier: anyone have this amp?
Apparently it has been discontinued. This is quite strange: it cannot be that old since it has USB 2.0. Anyway, this unit does seem very interesting. Serge- Sergedc

Volume difference between PCM 5.1 and AC3
I found the reason. When connected via USB, 2 sound output appear in Windows: Speaker and Digital. When playing AC 3, my sound card (HF D1B) was configured to use the digital out. Then when playing PCM 5.1, I left it on digital. If to play PCM 5.1, I switch to using the Speaker output, then...- Sergedc

Volume difference between PCM 5.1 and AC3
Hi, I have a USB 5.1 sounds card based on CM108 chip which has a AC3/DTS internal hardware decoder. The sound card is HIFI360.cn HF-D1B. When I play a movie, I have 2 options (using AC3filter): 1. Use AC3 encoder in AC3filter: the sound is encoded in AC3 format and passed on to...- Sergedc

To DAC or not to DAC
The reason why people can argue forever on which chipset is better, is because a lot of other things matter, like the op amp for example. I would think that if you want an upgrade, you buy a 2 channel amp dedicated for the music. I have 1 tube class A amp for music (Vocal and calm) and 1...- Sergedc

Worth upgrading my IDT High Definition Audio CODEC?
Surely so. I am doing a lot of research to find out what is the weakest link in the system. I can only guess it is the speakers. I read somewhere that having 3 way speakers help having clearer voice because you have a separate driver for the mids. Would you agree with that? Again...- Sergedc

Worth upgrading my IDT High Definition Audio CODEC?
Roller, I have to admit that you make a point. I did some additional tests on different songs. The DAC-01A is obviously a lot more detailed (I could hear part of the song that I didn't know were there with the IDT). So I tried to pinpoint exactly what it was that I liked about the IDT. I...- Sergedc

Cretative X-Fi Surround 5.1 modded for audiophile -- USB audio
What should be the voltage of a untouched clean line out? That device I mentionned is 2000mV. Is there any standard in there? The manual of my Tube amp mentions that the Input intensity is 300mV. Is the mismatch an issue? Thanks, Serge- Sergedc
