Difference between all the Sennheiser HD 500 series?

I could not tell you off hand. But from the reading I have been doing, the 599 sacrifices sound stage for more emphasis on the bass and highs. Some people say its a bit darker sounding than the 598. In reality, that's all I heard about it so your guess is as good as mine. It would not be...

Difference between all the Sennheiser HD 500 series?

I own the HD 518, HD 558 and HD 598. Which one is better? Well this is entirely subjective. After some research I did confirm that all three have the same drivers, just that the cup arrangements are different. With that said the HD 518 offers incredible value. It gives a well balanced sound...

I think you are right on the money here. Having sampled the HD 598 and HD 518 I would say that it is fairly accurate to say that in the higher model you sacrifice some low end for a wider sound stage. While I say sacrifice, the low end on the HD 598 is by no means lacking unless you are a bass...

I agree on the 100 hour burn in. Since I swap sets of cans between listening sessions it took me over 3 years for these to finally open up. After the first six months of ownership I gave up on them. I put them up for sale but since I did not get a good price, held on to them. Then three years...

Very nice review. If anyone knows of a good replacement cable which is not coiled, please do share.

In many cases sound preferences are subjective. However, the sheer amount of positive review on the internet point to the fact that Sennheiser actually did something right atleast for the majority of people who tried the HD 598. That said, being an owner of the 598 I don't agree with the logic...

ATH M50 vs Sennheiser HD380 Pro Impressions

Great review. Never tried the ATH 50's but I can vouch for the HD 380 as I own a pair. Bought them at the recommendation of a friend. I was not happy with them initially but grew to like them over time, now they are my favorite even beating the HD598. They do benefit from a headphone amp. Poor...

Need help deciding on what headphones to purchase.

The Sennheiser HD 558 is actually the successor to the HD 555. I have the HD 598 and the plush is actually much more comfortable than  leather. I would say that you would less likely have issues with sweat here as the material is breathable. Have you looked at the Audio Technica ATH-M50. I don't...

You have to factor in that these have angled drivers due to to the EAR design. For this reason the placement and fit have an impact on the sound quality. This is the same with the HD 380 as it uses the same tech, however the HD 497 and EH350 don't have this characteristic. If I wear the 598 with...

I use these cans with a FiiO E10 and Xonar U1. They are both good but while the FiiO gives punchy bass and good treble I feel it is too top and bottom heavy(with bass boost off) in comparison with the U1. The U1 is more nuetral(in Hifi mode) in comparison even though some coloration exists; I...

    Sennheiser HD598 vs Bose AE2

Quote:   Actually, I did purchase the HD 598 recently and from my experience they beat the Bose AE2 and the HD 380 when it comes to comfort. A beautiful set of cans.

Review by 'maxpain12' on item 'Sennheiser HD 598'

These phones are worth the retail price of $249. They have a wide sound stage which gives dimension to music. Clarity is strong enough to notice poorly encoded sound files. These don't require an additional headphone amp weighing in with an impedance of 50 Ohms. While they do sound good...

Nicely detailed review. What card do you recommend for driving a set of cans in the 50Ω range, with the possibility of going to 300Ω in the future?

Review by 'maxpain12' on item 'Asus Xonar D1 Sound Card (Black)'

This is a decent card for the price. This card comes with good but not great components. If you want better you will have to dish out more $$ but for the $67 I spent for this I think the quality is more than adequate. This was a breadth of fresh air coming from the Creative camp which has been...

Well the mids were not performing well even though other frequencies were accurate enough. The mids were over driven. I have now corrected the review as I identified the problem as a poor source and not the fault of the cans. Yes they are that sensitive. So I adjusted the review as such. Cheers

Asus Xonar U1 – My thoughts

Yes the hardware on the creative cards are built for gaming and it does have the best performance for it as well. But in case you did not notice, after Windows Vista came how bad the drivers have been. What good does all the gaming potential have when the drivers constantly uninstall...

Review by 'maxpain12' on item 'Sennheiser HD 380 PRO Headphones'

This was recommended to me by a friend and because of the other great reviews on the web I purchased a pair. What I can say is that it really brings out the details in music. Those low bit rate MP3's will not sound too good now. Bass is not exaggerated and highs are nice and smooth. The quality...

Asus Xonar U1 – My thoughts

Creative missed their mark years ago. I mean they had many years to fix their buggy drivers which never worked right since Vista came around and they gave their customers the step child treatment by letting them hang. I made the mistake of upgrading from a Creative XtreamMusic to a Fality Pro...

    Sennheiser HD598 vs Bose AE2

I was simply mentioning the only design plus point I see on the Bose AE2, I don't doubt that the 598 is superior in comfort to the Bose.

Sweden you have to look at from a price perspective. I believe for this price point these cans deliver. If you look around the web you will fine the majority of owners are happy with them. I am not trying to compare these to a $1500 HD 800 in terms of sound quality :P. Sgrossklass for $60 holes...

Review by 'maxpain12' on item 'Bose®AE2 audio headphones'

I honestly think you could spent your money elsewhere whether you like a flat response or want thumping bass. I can imagine if these need an headphone amp to truly show their colors but then again Bose should make this point clear on the packaging. I could not find the impedance listed nor the...

Review by 'maxpain12' on item 'Sennheiser HD 497'

These are a wonderful pair of cans. They sound warm and natural but with some bias towards the upper end but this is not bad at all unless you are looking for absolute flat response. For general listening they are a gem. Highly recommended. They went out of production in the mid 2000's and...

Review by 'maxpain12' on item 'Sennheiser eH350 Open-Aire HiFi Stereo Headphones'

These are a nice pair to own if you crave for natural sound on a budget. They belong to the Sennheiser Professional lineup after all. Don't get me wrong these are not going to come close to the $1500 HD800 but for the price can't go wrong. Just wish the ear pads were a little softer and while...
