Transparent acrylic boxes with a luminous base. Your tubes would look amazing!

Have a look at professional monitor speakers. They have a great frequency response linearity (like your 650)

Maybe the sound quality is better because the internal headphone amp of the HTC is better designed.

Hifiman HM-801 has a more detailed and dynamic sound than Ipod Classic indeed. You can drive even big headphones, if you like, because the amp is rather powerful.

In my experience, fatigue comes from distortion. I can listen loud with my Stax earspeakers for hours because they have a natural sound. Instead there are other models that I have to play at low volume for not hearing too much of sound distortion.

In my opinion Bose are the worst headphones in terms of quality/price ratio.

If you got the chance, try Monitor Audio Bronze speakers. These budget speakers sound great.

The ideal would be to not to equalize.   I always exclude the "tone" controls from my amps, because they make many music details lost.
