    Sony MDR MA900 Impressions Thread

Yea, these are not bassy cans. Covering the openings kinda defeats the point of these cans.

400-500? Whoa, I guess I will hold onto mine. I'll throw them back into storage while I switch up daily use cans.

Pad mod? Do you mean replacing the ear pads with alternative? There are no better ear pads nor any alternative ear pads for these.

Probably on the box but I can't remember where it is in the attic. What does your bass lens look like? Regardless, I highly recommend yall remove that thick driver pad!

Mine has a oblong opening which the lens replaces with a penny size hole.

    Sony MDR MA900 Impressions Thread

I removed the whole foam pad and pu the bass lens back on. The bass lens is acoustically transparent to the upper range, but not to the lower range. Essentially the bass lens is a low pass filter, allowing midrange and higher to pass thru while focusing the bass to the center of the driver. I...

    Sony MDR MA900 Impressions Thread

Nah, I'm not talking about the pads. I mean the pad covering the driver that is double sided taped onto the driver cage. That's the thing that the bass lens is applied to. And the bass lens is real, they've been using it since the MDR-F1, of which the MA900 is an evolution of. *And I agree some...

If you like that mod, you should try removing the whole foam/felt pad. For me at least it restores all the mid and upper range weaknesses. After removing the foam pad, I replaced the bass lens and put the speaker grill cover back on. I had moved to a 400i for daily use, but now I feel the 900 is...

Sony MDR-Z7 Upgrades and Mods Thread

Do you have a heatgun? Blowdryer? You can use heat to soften the felt paper, then use a razor to peel a corner back allowing you access the back of the driver. The back of the driver is quite exposed were it not for the felt paper. Then I would use a smallish q-tip and work it lightly to fix the...

I've been meaning to revisit this and try making my own mini spring mass resonator but with charcoal. I might also try sealing it so that the charcoal is not as reactive to humidity, ie. loses porosity as its displaced by humidity. KEF's ACE cabinets are acoustically sealed but the Z7 is a...

If you're asking which I'd keep if I could only have one pair, it'd be the Z7. I own both and both modded btw. The Z7 has better bass by a mile, better highs, mids, everything except width of the soundstage. The Z7 drivers are fundamentally better than the MA900 drivers. That said the Z7 are in...

The pads last a longtime, probably the lifetime if you are good to your cans. I got a set for a rainy day simply because I could and not because I had to. I think the other poster got new pads due to heavy use.

Asus STX II Vs Creative ZXR

Dedicated soundcards are for more than just music as they can carry a lot of processing power for not only surround but game features as well. The mic control features are convenient if you do a lot of match play, so is the positional audio for that slight edge. People who go with dedicated...

^^These cans don't need more bass, especially after a charcoal mod... unless one were an extreme basshead.

Google translate? When I bought mine, I had a sister in-law living there. I had her order them bring them here while on a trip home. The timing was perfect for me. There are a couple JDM vendors that stock the parts though, so you could just order them w/o having to chat.

You have to get them from japan, special order. They are not stocked anywhere else. All listings in the US are oos. I got my own back up set last year, straight from JDM.
