Android phones and USB DACs
Signed Starred. Also thanks to DanBa for that list!! I have a U3 and had once tried it with the Toshiba Thrive, but had no knowledge of that USB Audio Recorder app... It's also running ICS since they fingally released it and so I'll have to give things another go! Kinda funny that I had...- Formula350

The discovery thread!
I bought some FX40s over the summer, I was on vaca and accidentally left my marshmallows at home (which I think sound awesome). In Alaska everything pretty much is 1.5X more expensive than the lower 48, and I already knew that I could get them for ~$17 if I wanted to wait 4 weeks; I didn't :o...- Formula350

Reply to review by 'formula350' on item 'JVC HA-FX35-B Soft Marshmallow Stereo Headphones (Black)'
hah Thanks :P Though, I should admit that I am by no means an audiophile (so I don't know all the true audiophile speak heh). I like sound quality, and most of the time I try and make as good of due as possible with what I've got. I've been piecing together "better" stuff. It took me awhile to...- Formula350

Review by 'Formula350' on item 'JVC HA-FX35-B Soft Marshmallow Stereo Headphones (Black)'
I bought these a year ago while on vacation at the Cabin for a month, after finding out I left my Shure SE210's on the couch while packing! I was at Best Buy, so not exactly the ideal place to be shopping, but it's slim-pickings in Alaska lol I wasn't going to pay more than $30, and...- Formula350

Cheapest phone with wolfson DAC?
Whoa, thanks man! I was sorta questioning how good an idea it was to do what I had, but that sure makes me feel better about the purchase :o I'm not sure how close the Google Nexus S is in hardware, but they both use the same Exynos 3 Single Core processor and the Nexus S is upgradeable to ICS...- Formula350

Cheapest phone with wolfson DAC?
I nabbed the Samsung Fascinate (Galaxy S) just now for $80 shipped, on eBay. Albeit used, it has the Wolfson WM8994 (or it should), and is in nice condition! I had been looking for one with a Bad ESN, since that basically kills the phone portion, because I have no intention of registering it as...- Formula350

Sound significantly improves with portable amps?
The L3 LOD is an adapter cable for iPod/iPhone, so when he says E11+L3, it means you need both. The L3 takes the port you use to charge and connect to the computer, and converts it into a male headphone jack so you can plug it into an amp. :)- Formula350

Asus Essence STX HDD Crosstalk
What I'd do, if you think it's the case causing some sort of grounding noise, is isolate just the HDD from it. Either remove it from the HDD slot and let it sit on a piece of cardboard inside the case somewhere (as long as the HDD isn't touching metal), OR suspend it from the bottom of the cage...- Formula350

Which way to go for laptop and Shure se215?
Sorry for the delay. I didn't have this thread subscribed to for instant notifications :o I don't have a Fiio, or any other amp, unfortunately. Just the Xonar Xense and U3. The Xense drives my SE210s the best, as I mentioned, so I'm willing to bet any high quality portable AMP will benefit...- Formula350

Which way to go for laptop and Shure se215?
As an SE210 and Xonar U3 owner, I can tell you that the U3 reallllly helped liven my 210's up a lot. Mind you, I pretty much felt they were lacking in lows, but the U3 is easily capable of supplying it and offers great sound. Sadly the only thing I have for comparison is the Xense, which seems...- Formula350

Revised Essence ST/STX or Asus USB w/these improvements?
Well, the Essence has Digital out, but I assume you must be wanting optical *shrug* Also, if you're worried about a PCI slot, I'd mod that H6 in here: http://www.silverstonetek.com/images/products/cw02/CW02s-06.jpg (though with 7 available, I don't see what the problem is). Which if optical IS...- Formula350

Xonar U3 USB DAC
Um... no he didn't  I wasn't going to get into this flame fest, but you implying that was a bit too much. Which on that note: Sky, it's not that he doesn't understand English as he seems to do that quite well, it's just his reading comprehension skills are a bit lacking :o...- Formula350

Xonar U3 USB DAC
I'm going to start off saying that I know that a person should not hear any difference in audio when the source is only 16@44, and I know people have said this before and gotten flamed for it, but I'm going to anyways since I would be willing to do a blind test. I'm almost 100% certain I would...- Formula350

Asus Essence STX HDD Crosstalk
I figure why changing the EPU engine off and disabling Cool'N'Quiet helped are because of how they regulate the system. EPU works with the phase power, exactly how I'm not too sure, but I suspect through changing the MOSFET switching frequency. Cool'N'Quiet changes CPU frequencies and voltage...- Formula350

Xonar U3 USB DAC
Well, looks like we've got one inbound to the site I work at, so we'll (I'll, most likely) be doing a review of it :D:) Unfortunately I'm no audiophile, nor even really worthy of "wanna-be" due to lack of funds, but I'll do my best!! Since it really isn't a high-end item it'll be compared...- Formula350

Xonar U3 USB DAC
I hadn't even known about it until I found it on eBay! While it does pack decent specs for it's size, the seller's asking price is a bit much to justify purchasing one. http://cgi.ebay.com/120737194059 You'd be far better off waiting till whenever it hits online stores that ship to...- Formula350

Shure Black foam sleeve, sound quality help
haha Reading what I wrote... Holy crap did I sound like an idiot :o Anyways. What I was trying to convey was this mod: http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/131100/e2c-mod-56k-warning Helped my E2c's a ton. Widened the sound stage a touch, but really livened up the highs. Keep in mind, I...- Formula350

Shure Black foam sleeve, sound quality help
Drill the hole in the tube of the earphones, that'll make them much better sounding (assuming the 115's are basically repackaged E2c, like they appear to be). Also I can't stand the rubber or rubberized-foam (Olives as KM called them), as they either make too little of a seal, or too MUCH of one...- Formula350

This DAC/AMP (USB): any of these decent enough?
I thought about a FiiO, but not the E7 since it was higher than I was after, and the NuForce as well :\ One reason I was sort of staying away from units like the FiiO though, is because I would like to tinker around and/or replace components with higher quality ones at some point :D Not sure how...- Formula350

This DAC/AMP (USB): any of these decent enough?
I'll just get this out of the way first: I'm by no means an audiophile, and I don't have the money to become one. So all I'm looking for is something that will offer really "nice" sound (by all of your standards), room to be upgraded (so OpA driven would be nice) and ability to drive IEMs...- Formula350

X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Professional (PCIe) -- Capacitor Mod Questions
Assuming you're referring to his comment about being the only person to have thought about doing this, which he was obviously being sarcastic about, but if it has been done over and over, why could I not dig up any info on them? X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Professional (PCIe) -- Capacitor Mod Questions
Well the main thing we're trying to find out is which of them is the main power cap (power filter cap, filter cap?) so he can replace it. My lack of owning the X-Fi for an in-person view of it means I can only speculate as to the roll of some of these. That is why I'm on the fence about which of...- Formula350
