Don't give up on surround sound in headphones; Dolby Headphone decoding technology actually does produce surround. It's not a gimmick, and gives greater detail than speakers.

You get no static with a pure Digital Infrared transmission. Most IR units are digital, but the old Sony MDR DS3000 was an analog-digital IR and had hissing at high volumes.
