Bottom line is you won't get the kind of bass you are looking for.  I had 4 beastly 8's and 2500rms in my car for awhile.  Good stuff but it gets annoying after awhile. Save your hearing.  Sony xb500's or xb700's are probably gonna be your most bass heavy cans

d2000 seems to fit the bill very nicely. Plenty of bass, a little sacrifice in mid range but I don't notice it much.  They sound mighty fine to my ears

They were Markl modded d5000's.  So more money involved.  The biggest problem here is sound, not looks.  If they don't sound like they should, there is something wrong that needs to be fixed. The way mythless describes it, is these are as bad as stock apple earbuds.

Its all hearsay at this point, I'd like to see some original communication.  That would really clear this up, because at this point its just 2 people pointing their fingers at each other and saying "it's his fault"    And no I didn't really feel his post was aimed just to make you look bad...

I bought myself some es7's and d2000's. The denons are amazing in every way and the es7's put out great sound in a small stylish package. Unfortunately comfort is sacrificed so i will probably sell em eventually. D2000's are staying for a long long time

D2000 without a doubt. Quite possibly the best headphones in the under 300 dollar category. They do most everything well, great bass and clarity. Only negative thing is the mids are a bit recessed but it doesn't detract from the listening experience.

I like a warm, bassy sound so they should be perfect for me.  I love the sound character of my es7's and these are supposedly similar (but better of course) and they should be much much more comfy for long periods

haha I think I'll just keep them :)  I justify it by saying i need a comfy set of at home listening phones, while the es7's can be my portable cans.   Up next will be a new source unit (cowon s9 hopefully)/ Won't happen for awhile

Not a bad gift.  They aren't horrible cans, and they will get better with time. Otherwise you should just return them if you don't like them, she should understand.  

They are exactly the same except for the headband and the foam ring in the 550's.  Look elsewhere
