USB DAC With iPad2
Sorry, haven't been here in awhile. Getting ready to go back to S.Korea next month. I have been playing with the Ipad2 and Ipod touch 4th Gen. Both have pretty decent audio. The Ipad2 is capable of asyc USB out. Apple managed to close off the camera connector since v4x of the...- Canuckabroad81

TTVJ Millett Portable Hybrid = Awesome
I am curious as to what opamp (s) this amp is using? Any ideas? Dual OPamp ? Looks nice. I am thinking about getting my musical "wife" into HIFI with a seriously nice head amp. Good review.- Canuckabroad81

iPod Dock/Cradle
I use apple's component dock and it functions the same way as other higher cost docs. Sound quality is excellent! btw, that ipod (5.5G) runs ROXBOX and flac files. I got rid of the doc this tube amp came with as it added a tonne of noise. Yup, this is a VUUM amp that I modded. Mods are...- Canuckabroad81

Sound Quality of Beosound 6
Right, being someone who is a multimedia nut like myself, Data loss cannot be restored when it happens during compression. Agreed, B&O is claiming the impossible. It might sound great but you cannot justify spending $600 for it, bottom line. I can if I may compare the BS...- Canuckabroad81

Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread
Quote: Agree with you on this I do. After now having these headphone for nearly a week, I have tried them on a tube amp and then on a the Ruby Carat DAC, and I'll say the ruby carat MkII makes tracks sound like they are live in front of you with a tonne of punch, base and treble (full...- Canuckabroad81

Just broke down and bought a pair of HD 650s for W690,000.
Doesn't work like that here. You can't return these and besides I already reg them online. They have been validated. I'm going to keep them. I need them so that I don't go deaf trying to listen to music with a 100dB worth of background noise. These Stennheisers really do block a tonne of...- Canuckabroad81

Just broke down and bought a pair of HD 650s for W690,000.
Funny because in Canada they are about $540-580CDN. So not too far off the mark. I am leaving Korea anyways as I am moving to greener pastures in Southern Asia, ie) Hong Kong or Macao. The Korean wife is moving with me. ^^ ... ssssht she want a pair now. I think I might get...- Canuckabroad81

Just broke down and bought a pair of HD 650s for W690,000.
Well I just got a pair of Stennheiser HD650s last night from a new electronics store in Downtown Seoul. They had all the proper papers and the serial numbers. I am using them with my Ruby Carat Optical DAC and S/PDIF. They were about $100 more than they should have been, but it cannot be...- Canuckabroad81

Sony Discman D-33: Come for the pics, stay for the impression!
Hey speaking of Vintage sony diskman. I have one that has an integrated TOSLINK output for minidisk or DAC from 1997. It's an ESP model. I don't know how it compares to other models.- Canuckabroad81

Recommendations for USB/optical DAC <$400
The best for the money I have tested is the Ruby Carat MkII! I just bought this one here in Korea (Korean made) for $230CDN! Overseas you're looking at $320-$360. Sound quality is simply jaw dropping. Does both S/PDIF and TOSLINK/Optical. It has the ability to do...- Canuckabroad81

Just broke down and bought a Cmoy from ebay
Well, like I said there was a fellow in Yongsan Ipark mall who had one of these built for him. It sounded very clean and defined. Turning on the amp without an input didn't lead to any hissing or RF noise or radio in my headphones. If I were to build this on my own here it'd cost me at least...- Canuckabroad81

Iphone 4 + UDAC = FAIL
what's funny about this problem is that it's the Iphones firmware that is causing the problem. If you read on in the Insanely Mac forums you'll see that a few other IPAD only devices are supported under iOS 4.2.1 but not the camera adapter or card reader. Also some Ipad owners are running into...- Canuckabroad81

USB to Optical?
USB audio is limited to 24/96Khz and optical / toslink is up to however much bandwidth you can cram into fiberoptic cable. I think currently most computers can't process more than 192Khz/24bit, at least none that have seen. Correct me if I am wrong. Actually I have had some problems with...- Canuckabroad81

Just broke down and bought a Cmoy from ebay
One of the members here is selling Cmoys using a Burr browns OPA2134 under the name csg_eu. I have heard some excellent things about this amp on other forums. So I broke down and purchased it for my IPOD touch. A fellow in Yongsan has one using the same opamp. IT was a SERIOUS wow...- Canuckabroad81

sharing my mini-setup (tweaked VUUM)
The audio from the current setup is just fine. Old speakers were a problem before this upgrade. current works well. In fact I have seen the FATMAN series using this exact setup. S30 + same tube amp. 30W output. 15W x 2 channels. -
Just tried the Ruby Carat MkII! Loved it and bought it yesterday!
Well, I went Xmas shopping yesterday and had a test sample of 20 headamps, and then I sampled a KOREAN DAC/Headamp called Ruby Carat MkII and I was immediately impressed with the realism of the sound out of the headphone jack using my B&O A8s and then switching them for Stennheiser HD650s and...- Canuckabroad81

Review by 'Canuckabroad81' on item 'Zune HD 64 GB Video MP3 Player (Black)'
Well I had a chance to use the Zune HD 64GB mp3 player and I can say that the audio is NOT better to the Ipod touch but rather equal to, but again you ge what you pay for. Zune is not as user friendly and limits the hardware you can use with it. I wasn't really that impressed with it's...- Canuckabroad81

sharing my mini-setup (tweaked VUUM)
Indeed it has a headphone jack. Standard sized jack to be exact. The speakers this rig came with sounded OK, but the highs were way off and at higher base levels they started getting "poppy." I suspect the speakers were cheaply made.... So another project might be to upgrade the speakers... -
sharing my mini-setup (tweaked VUUM)
I thought I'd share my setup with you HIFI-nuts. I am living in S.Korea, Seoul at the moment and I am on my way to Macau China for next year, hopefully all going according to plan. 24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!
Quote: looked it up. I understand what is going on now. I was correct in my thinking. The tube adds "a harmonic/noise" to the sound/music and our brains interpret this as the sound opening up or warming up.- Canuckabroad81

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!
Thanks for explaining this VISUALLY! I got your point easily! Again keep the explanations coming as this is all food for the brain. --- Let's go back to the tube amplifier. I have a tube amp that is getting HQ .flac 96Khz audio from my ipod doc "unmodified" and...- Canuckabroad81
