OnePlus One
I received my one a few weeks ago, this is really nice phone... No yellow band issue. They use the same manufacturer that Apple uses to supply some of their iPhone screens, I think it was a QC issue that they applied a bit too much glue, or something. All fixed though, mine is perfect. Also...- tws1

Soundblaster Audigy. The original first one! Plus the creative/cambridge 5.1 system, I was ahead of the game at that point... Audigy 2 ZS in my system right now as a second soundcard. Plus some autofocus moving webcam thing, somewhere anyway...- tws1

AKG K702 - how to get the best out of them
I would suggest you get yourself to a meet and really see what is on offer. Easier said than done I know, and having recently been to one I can say it was definitely worth finding the time! I heard some incredibly overpriced and ridiculous looking kit, but what I was most interested in were the...- tws1

Grado SR325i / AKG K701 / Sennheiser 650
I heard the AKG K702's through some micro amps at the London Head-Fi meet, they sounded amazing. I ran a LOD from my iPhone to an AMB Micro and one of Justins justaudio.co.uk amps, don't let anyone tell you they are bass light. On a track by Niwa, the deep bass was incredible! Had to turn the...- tws1

Looking for a formula?! If an amp gives 100 mW into a 32 ohm headphone, then how many into a 70 ohm headphone? (for example)
I recently tried the K701 with an AMB micro amp, just for fun.... Sounded great! Had to turn the volume up quite a bit, but certainly had enough power to get some really deep bass out of the K701. And reading posts from guys scoffing at the lack of power some amplifiers have, and the K701's are...- tws1

What are the best speakers in the world?
Surely, this is why this thread is on a headphone forum :) There are way too many variables with speakers! Room type, how well they are set up, flooring material, air density, bass traps (whatever these are), and now concrete tunnels.... At least all headphone lovers have to deal with is...- tws1

Low end a Hi-Fi Digital Sources, No Difference?
Correct, there is no difference. Sort of... The problem with jitter originates at the MB, same as the clock. The MB pumping out the data isn't just streaming out the data as fast as it can, there is an imbedded clock in the digital signal that is adhered to during the DAC conversion. In...- tws1

If I mostly listen to mp3's, does it make sense to spend more than $100 on headphones?
After the MP3 has been through its reconstruction filters, etc, and with the complexity of the modern MP3 encoders, I wouldn't worry about FLAC vs. MP3, as they are going to be extremely similar. After all, assuming that the FLAC has been created from a 44.1kHz CD the extra accuracy is the...- tws1

What is your Computer Case
I had a Fractal case and thought it was awful, very plasticy, nothing fitted right, and the fan mounts were terrible. Plastic square things that clipped in- sort of holding everything together. The door on my case wasn't lined up properly, so it creaked and got stuck when you tried to pull it...- tws1

The best portable amp
I heard Justin's mini amps at the UK Head-Fi meet recently, I'm sure he won't mind me advertising on his behalf... JustAudio.co.uk. I compared his mini class AB, his slightly larger class A, a stepdance, and an amb micro. They were all great amps, I was using AKG 702's to try them, using a...- tws1

UK National Meet 2011 Impressions (02/04/11)
What a great day, cudos to John for organising everything, I had a great time. Thanks to everyone that brought their equipment along, what a great turnout. I will post my random thoughts below in no particular order. Firstly though, the disclaimer. I’m soooo not an expert, so I probably don’t...- tws1

Head-Fi UK Meet: 02/04/2011 - London
What were you doing up at 5-52am to post the last?! (Edit: OK, all the times are wrong for UK'ers, wow....) Looks like it is going to be a great day, look at that gear list! I feel really guilty I can't bring anything, so I'll try to mingle as much as I can! Everyone likes a good chat! ...- tws1

Free Comply Tips for a review
Hi, smashing idea! I'd love a pair to try, I'll post on Head-Fi and Avforums.com. I'm based in the UK, avforums is the one we use over here. Would be a nice idea to start a thread on Head-Fi, so we can all post in the same place? Or I could see everyone starting 1-post threads, and...- tws1

USB cable supposedly improving DAC sound quality? How can I take other posts seriously after that?
This is golden. OP, you are spot on. How can I believe anything I read? Especially when guys have 8,500 or more posts, I should trust him right ? (I know, postcounts right...) This is the problem I have at the moment, a lot of the advice I read seems to be based around the cost and value for...- tws1

audioengine a2 eq settings?
+2 for all the advice already! > I've probably had mine just over a month, and I think they have improved a bit in that time. > I've got the Audioengine stand things, and they make a huge difference vs. flat on the desk. > What input are you using? I'm using the RCA and it sounds a lot...- tws1

If you could keep only one IEM, which one would it be?
Don't know why you would really use IEMs inside the house, because I would hope that you would be able to find much higher quality headphones for the same price. Leading from that, the most important things for me are isolation, comfort, and price! Especially isolation, as I am outside...- tws1

Headphones are great, but will never be speakers...
What an incredible thread! As an engineer, I think I see music just as that - music! The better I can reproduce the recording, the better it will sound. With todays high quality components sounding worse than 'vintage' stuff, am I missing the point? I was really looking forward to going to... -

Powered speakers or Monitors for around £300
Dude, there are loads of threads on this kind of thing, probably not comparing studio monitors though. My advice would be that these are probably all quite similar, mostly being designed for studio use and therefore all attempting to be as similar as possible... My opinions are that the...- tws1

Where is the audio equivalent of the Sandy Bridge upgrade for onboard video ?
The newer laptops have 'Harman Kardon' shiny-chrome-effect speakers built in, and some sort of fake 'Subwoofer (?)' that still sounds terrible! Is this where high end audio is going? I agree at the moment, it is more of an afterthought. A Realtek chip that adds 15.1 surround sound output...- tws1

Audioengine 2/5 with nicer/cheaper DAC
+1 for speakers first. Get either A2 or A5 depending on how loud you want, how much room you are willing to give up, etc. Then decide if you want to upgrade anything at a later date. They will sound great by themselves, but even an el-cheapo DAC would improve things vs. your laptop...- tws1

Looking for perfect 2.0 setup for relatively small room
I use A2's from an Essence STX soundcard, and they are amazing. I have also got the DS1 stand things that Audioengine also sell. Brilliant sound, very classy looking, stupidly small. Word of warning, you will need the stands, or at least something to stand them off the surface. I think it...- tws1
