after using my J3 with eq for 2 weeks, i plug in a decent amp (ibasso t3), set the volume on max and turned all EQ settings off. Sound is unbeatable. Perhaps I should've invested in a dap with a line out instead :P.

no matter what i do with bbe, my 5 year old sony a808 is a whole neck ahead the cowon j3 in terms of midrange and forward sounding vocals on the m50.   my music has to have a certain impact before i deem it enjoyable, and the j3 struggles at sub 30 volume levels while my sony does it easily...

just got a pair of these and some m1s on impulse today. the m1s sounded absolutely brilliant for the price, but the b2 was by far superior both in clarity, separation and price. I've been driving them using my desktop setup to see how well they perform, and I have to agree with most people here...

best is to look up reviews comparing those amps. you can always easily hit up google and search e.g. matrix m-stage vs schiit asgard, etc.   that's how i ended up deciding on the m-stage. there's a number of factors you should also consider, most importantly the DAC that you plan on pairing...

argh completely forgot i posted on this thread. the crackling issue has been resolved, all i needed was a reboot :). I chanced upon a helpful post but i can't remember where, it advised for audinst users to connect the unit via usb before powering it on via AC to avoid any stuttering/crackling...
