I have found that Shure's current lineup of IEM's combined with foam tips, isolate really well. The foam tips that come with their products are essentially an ear plug

if it was a split wire, you would not be able to get any sound from the left earbud. it could be a broken driver. i think your best bet would be to call shure. their products useally have a 2 yr warranty anyway, so if they cant fix it hopefully they will replace it

For the price you got them at the vibe duo is a good deal. The sound is very bassy, with decent mids and decent highs. The treble is a bit disappointing. Im sure it will be an improvement over your 20$ sony's though

I've had the vibe I and II. the vibe one has a faulty cable and breaks after about 6 months. V Moda will replace the headphones but the warranty only lasts one year. You can get a pair for 10 or 15 dollars on eBay if you wanted one. At that price it's worth it, since the v modas do sounds good...
